Panini Unwrapped: 2010-11 Gold Standard Basketball (with the checklist and a prize)

July 20, 2011

When our marketing allotment of 2010-11 Gold Standard Basketball boxes finally arrived Tuesday evening, there was no one around to bust them with. In the interest of full disclosure, it took every ounce of will power I had to not fly solo for a golden edition of Panini Unwrapped.

But a product as special as Gold Standard deserves a special guest, so we brought in the big gun, NBA Brand Manager David Porter, to help walk us and talk us through the product.

Quite frankly, I was so taken aback by the beauty of the product that I only heard about every 10th word Porter said. So I’ll be happy to go back and watch the video, which includes world premiere sneak peeks of the Solid Gold 14-karat gold trading cards, the Gold Rush insert that includes a small medallion of real gold embedded into it and the Golden Ticket promotion.

Once you’ve taken all of that in, be sure to check out the product checklist below. Oh, and if you want the chance to win an unopened box of this gilded greatness, all you have to do is follow Panini Authentic on Twitter and like Panini Authentic on Facebook.

NICE! I LOVE IT! Would also love to win a box! I’m still out of work from back surgery in Dec. Winning one would be a nice Pick-Me-Up! PANINI IS the GREATEST! I love you guys and all you do! Thank you Tracy and Panini!

I tried to pick Tracy’s jaw up from the floor, but then mine came thundering down. Being able to create your own box of national treasure? Now that’s a golden ticket worth looking for.

Wow!!! Looks awesome Panini! There’s a lot of great innovation here; the kind collectors want. Keep up the great work and here’s to 50 more wonderful years!

I am a follower on both Twitter AND Facebook! Count me in for the winning of a box! I would like to comment on the set…but my mouth is still just hanging open. This is the one time the stickers look AWESOME! That packaging is INCREDIBLE! Never seen anything like it and it really sets you up for the greatness inside. Yet another amazing product!

Great stuff the “solid 14kt gold trading cards” are gonna be HUGE… gold is UNREAL right now.. so even a “common” layer will be VERY valuable…. cant wait to get some of this stuff !

THIS IS AN AMAZING PRODUCT! I CAN’T WAIT TO GET MY HANDS ON A BOX (PACK).

I like how the product stayed true to its name. The overall look is very impressive. The fact that some cards contain actual gold is even more impressive. I also like the whole Golden ticket concept; it gives the collectors a chance to really interact with their favorite players and have a more hands on experience with the products they’ll be collecting.

My favorite card in this episode of Panini Unwrapped is the Chris Paul jersey card (by default of course)! So excited!!!

  19. July 20, 2011 4:34 pm

man i would love to pull the LEBRON JAMES SOLID GOLD it would go nicely with my exquisite rookie auto!!!

  20. July 20, 2011 8:11 pm

Wow and wow. Is there really anything else that needs to be said? When this was first announced, I wasn’t sure how I felt. Now that it has been completed, I am still in awe. Nicely done. If this is what future original Panini ideas are going to be like, I can’t wait.

  21. July 20, 2011 8:38 pm

Also need that Hayward rookie. It sounds like Panini has truly outdone itself with this product–it’s got great pulls, even greater redemptions, especially the five Golden Tickets. Michael Scott’s Willy Wonka promotion attempt from the office came to mind, though yours will most definitely end better for everyone. And Tracy, I noticed that my jaw as well had dropped out of its usual spot at the bottom of my jaw. Fortunately I’m typing this and not trying to tell you verbally…

Nice product Panini! One question……is there any way you can do Tracy’s fallen jaw in gold? That would be a collectible I would want to add to my card man-cave!

  23. July 21, 2011 12:04 am

Woo up to following 5 panini pages as well as Tracy as well. Out of control! Good luck everyone. Another awesome chance to win something. Thanks Panini!!

Just one of the many reasons we love you here at Panini America, Rhys. Thanks for the support.

  24. July 21, 2011 12:07 am

    Love the shirt btw Tracy!!

    • July 21, 2011 12:07 am

Thanks, Rhys. We’re getting a lot of comments on our shirts. We might just have to start giving more of these away as contest prizes, too.

  25. July 21, 2011 12:43 am

Been watching the product steadily pop up on eBay over the past few days; all of the cards look unbelievable. Great job, especially on the solid golds.

I just wish the release was spaced out further from ‘National Treasures’… these 2 products so close together are going to be walletbreakers.

  26. July 21, 2011 7:35 am

    Booo,no Sheed in there ;)

Very nice product you made there! Keep up the good work!

The Golden Tickets are a great Idea! What if someone from overseas pulls a Golden Ticket for a Shoot around for example? do they have to pay for the flight and anything else on their own?

    • July 25, 2011 9:26 pm

Good question. The rules on the box state that the Golden Ticket promotion is good only in the United States and D.C.

  27. July 21, 2011 10:04 am

Sick stuff Tracy, gonna have to get a few of these boxes!!! hope to see ya at the shop soon. That gold dirk is so sweeeet!!!! hope i get that golden ticket to build a box!

  31. July 22, 2011 9:11 am

Tracy didn’t pay attention to what David was saying. I didn’t pay attention to what David AND Tracy were saying during the break, lol. I didn’t expect to be so impressed with this product. Congrats, and happy anniversary!
