Panini America Peeks New 2012 Americana Heroes & Legends (Six Must-See Images)

April 17, 2012

Panini America officials revealed today that they will go back to a more traditional pack configuration for 2012 Americana Heroes & Legends — the next installment of the company’s popular Americana line slated to release July 11.

The newest iteration of the product will focus on a diverse selection of American heroes — from the athletic arena to the battlefield to space and beyond — and will be distributed in 10-card packs, 18-pack boxes and 16-box cases. Each box will deliver three autograph or memorabilia cards, nine inserts and one parallel.

Among the most unique inclusions in the new release will be four cut-autograph cards featuring actual General stars from Dwight D. Eisenhower’s Army uniform, and actual pieces of gold, silver and bronze embedded into the USA Medals insert numbered to 1, 5 and 10, respectively.

Other highlights include:

  • USA Signature Materials numbered to 99
  • USA Medals Gold numbered to 1
  • Summer or Winter Signature Materials numbered to 99
  • Military Elite Signatures numbered to 99

Excellent preview, this format allows more affordability to collectors wanting to try the product which I’m always a big fan of. Good job focusing on heroes from the battlefield as well, I have a number of friends and family who are/were in the service so I’ll be eager to see how those come out. Thanks as always Tracy!

Will there be any current military heroes from Operation Iraqi Freedom or Enduring Freedom in this set?

It would be nice to see some cards of Staff Sgt Salvatore Giunta, Corporal Jason Dunham, Sergeant Dakota Meyer and other recent recipients of the Medal of Honor.

I’m very new to the Panini line overall so I’d like to ask what the price point on these is going to be? As a U.S. History teacher, I’m intrigued by the potential these cards might have to pique interest in my class, not to mention they would look super cool to start my own collection! Looking forward to it!

meh. What I care about are the base set topics and if they are unique enough for me to want to buy this product for the history/pop culture aspect like I have purchased from your competitors in the past. Hard for me to get excited about relics/autos that I wouldn’t have very good odds at pulling.
