Panini Peek Preview: 2012 Score Football

May 11, 2012

More than two decades after its legendary beginning in 1989, Score Football remains, simply, the most football card fun you can have for a buck. And when 2012 Score Football returns for its 23rd installment in July, the set’s fundamental mantras — fun, value, collectibility and universal appeal — will once again be on full, vibrant display.

Boasting one of the most expansive checklists of the entire 2012 football card season, 2012 Score will deliver a massive 400-card base set that includes 300 veterans and 100 Rookie Cards, all for just 99 cents a pack.

Each 36-pack box of 2012 Score Football will deliver 24 Rookie Cards, 36 Glossy parallels and 34 additional inserts or parallels from a tried-and-true roster that includes Complete Players, In The Zone, Complete Players and Numbers Game. 2012 Score also will deliver something for the thrill-seekers: Four Printing Plates 1/1s (Black, Cyan, Magenta and Yellow) for each of the 400 cards in the set.

In addition, each 20-box case of 2012 Score will yield four autographs. Stay tuned to The Knight’s Lance for more details on this collecting staple as the release date draws nearer. But for now, enjoy this savory sneak peek.

Big kudos to Panini for keeping kids in the (collecting) game! 99-cents for a pack of sharp, good-looking cards, rookies in their new teams’ gear plus a shot at Autos and short prints. Well done. How many cards are in a pack?

Sweet looking Luck and CJ! Can you serial number the end zone, red zone and Gold zone this year?

Looks good! Are the inserts going to be serially numbered this year?

I can only describe my initial reaction to the first Andrew Luck autograph in a Colts uniform I’ve seen this year as “near orgasmic.” Score is the foundation of many young collections and every year I make it a point to open some. I have hit autographs multiple times including a rare Ronde Barber in 2005 and a sweet MJD end zone black rookie in 2006 that was later graded gem mint. I’m truly excited to see the addition of printing plates in the product, a semi-affordable 1/1 to chase for the more thrifty collector. Overall this looks like a superb effort and I can’t wait to break some for myself!

I do have one question: I was highly disappointed in last year’s release when I realized that the parallels were no longer serial numbered. I understand they are still SP to whatever the parallel set states but the removal of the serial number somehow diminished the “unique” feel to these cards from year’s past. Will the Gold Zone, Red Zone, etc. parallels be serial numbered this year or not? Thanks in advance for the answer Tracy!

Please have the parallel cards serial numbered this year, I love Score and the parallels, its large set gives players a chance to get their 2nd / 3rd etc year card who are not the big 3 or 4 players on a team. As a team collector, I want as many different players for my team as possible, not just the QB, top RB and top WR as too many sets are today.

This is an important and, perhaps, undersppreciated product for Panini due to the collectorship well-suited to purchase it; young collectors. Just like Hoops Basketball…& since this product has rookies you’re off the hot-seat, Hackler…it’s well suited to the fledgling collector. Nice job fleshing it out a bit, Score has grown stale , in my opinion.

99 cents is not that great its 7 cards last year. But score is still cool.

I can’t see packs going back to the days when you could grab ‘em at 35 cents/10 card pack, bro.
Given the fact that the product has been ramped-up via printing plates, the reintroduction of machine-stamped chase-sets, and includes autographs from the draft’s top talent… THAT is a neat package at a box-price that is certainly with the reach of most young collectors.

There should a Score NBA set with all the players, coaches, plates and autos. No need to thank me, just make it happen. :)

At 99 cents, it’s a constant winner. With a few autos and printing plates as well, you can’t beat it. Again, nicely done with the low-end stuff guys.

Still no new rookie photos? Love to see of here something on Cowboys 1st round pick Morris Claiborne? Heard he isnt gonna be a the rookie shoot, what does that mean, no auto’s or just not in the major sets?

A lot of those new rookie photos will take place a week from today at the NFL PLAYERS Rookie Premiere.

Loving it!!! This is such a fun product and now you guys have included printing plates!! Are you kidding me!!!! You guys just keep making this product better every year! Can’t wait to see it! This is a great product for the kids as well! And they have a great chance at getting something incredible. My son and I both buy Score. He always does better than me in his box.
