Panini Peek: 2012 Prominence Football

May 24, 2012

Just one day after announcing the triumphant return of Momentum to its football portfolio following more than a decade away, Panini America is ready to release yet one more bombshell announcement: The introduction of the brand new 2012 Prominence Football, an eight-cards-per-box proposition that includes at least two autographs, one additional autograph or memorabilia card and five base cards or Legends.

The unique foundation of 2012 Prominence Football will be five different Rookie Card subsets devoted to the 35 young superstars who attended the just-completed 2012 NFLPA Rookie Premiere: Autographed Nameplate Letters, Autographed NFL Team Field Plates, Autographed Team Logo Patches, Autographed NFL Team Helmets and Autographed Event-Worn Jersey Cards.

Each Rookie Card subset will be numbered to matching quantities, creating five unique Rookie Cards for each of the 35 featured players.

Other highlights of 2012 Prominence Football, due out in late August, include:

  • Illustrious Signatures: A 30-card certified autograph insert highlighting the NFL’s best players ever to strap on a helmet, numbered to 99 or less.
  • Eminence Combo Signatures: A 15-card, dual-autograph set featuring some of the best dual threats of all time. Look for Triple Signature versions numbered to 10 or less.
  • Black & Blue Materials: A 30-card game- and event-worn memorabilia tribute to the hardest hitters in the NFL numbered to 49 or less.
  • Unlimited Potential Materials Signatures Prime: A 35-card insert featuring a prime piece of event-worn jersey and an autograph numbered to 49 or less.

We’ll have more coverage of the envelope-pushing 2012 Prominence Football right here on The Knight’s Lance in the coming weeks. But for now, here’s your first extended look at the product:

Love the idea of varied memorabilia being incorporated into the rookie issues.
Hackler, do you have any idea as to just how many Football products Panini plans on releasing this season?
As a longtime Viking sufferer… the Moss-CC dual auto is a thing of beauty!

The cards are very nice but I have to make one comment on Andrew’s signature. Does that autograph not look like 5 loopy-dee-loops. I know it’s better than some of the “signatures of shame”, (CJ, Sproles etc.) but really? Personally, that card of M. Floyd really “pops” with those colors, very nice!

  12. May 24, 2012 11:33 am

Looks amazing, a nice mix of some of the best subsets from other favorite products and some exciting new ones! Thanks Tracy!

I think its great that Panini keeps us on our feet all the time with new products! Some of the inserts have a look between Epix and Rookies and stars which i think its great! One of the things that im not crazy about is when a product contain nothing but rookie autos and memo inserts!!! I like to always have that chance to pull a legend from the past or todays star!!! The cards look sharp, ill be looking forward to busting some boxes! Hey Tracy how much is the product gonna be around?

18 products is way too many IMO

This set looks way to similar to others in the past
    -Luck – Epix field auto
    -RG3 – Rookies & Stars
-Favre – PnP signal callers set
    -Carter/Moss – Certified SOMB duals
    -Ingram – Playbook base autos

Will this contain redemptions that I will have to wait 2 years for and not be able to get through to customer service to discuss?

    • May 24, 2012 3:24 pm

We will do everything we can to ensure that doesn’t happen. Our new CSM will absolutely get your issue taken care of.

Dont you think 18 different product is pushing it a bit too much? Not bein a wise guy, but id like to see it cut down to 10 or so, and have a set where you really investment the most time into it and a make it a showstopper. I know National Treasures is great, but look what happens when it gets rushed, damaged cards and miss prints on the Letterman’s and a ton of redemptions. I just really think it should go back to the way it was mid 90’s and the sets really caught your attention. To me it seems like the same old story, manafactured patch autos, year after year. Brett Farve and Joe Montanna in every set. Somethings gotta give, Im not the only one feeling this.

They can’t make fewer sets and recoup the $ they have to spend on the NFL license. Stop whining.

I am not trying to say this in a derogatory sense…..but I think it would be much better if you guys would consolidate your 18 different products into a handful of really nice products.
I mean the cards look good….but all the different products look almost exactly alike.
I would love to see Panini stick to like 8 NFL products a season.

I agree, to many products. With so many products out in a year you guys are going to kill the value of all cards down the line. I have been waiting months for my HRX Cam Newton auto /10 and on the back it says that you have all 10 of the cards sitting in a vault waiting for us? Dont get me wrong I love all of your products, but you guys need to slow down.

yes i too believe 18 (??/!!!!??) sets is wayy tooo much
    quality not quantity please
not be be a htr but i would rather see 8 or 10 great sets than 18 sets and some so-so…
we dont want to see what happened in the 90s all over again

    • May 25, 2012 11:13 pm

While we certainly understand the perspective of 18 products perhaps being too many, we also do our very best to make sure the 18 products we produce have a reason for being, a unique identity, that is targeted for a specific type of collector. We don’t expect every collector to identify with every product we make. But we do hope that every product we make has that special something that appeals to a certain segment of collectors. Our Product Development team has a lot of tricks up its sleeve this season and we can’t wait for collectors to see what we have in store. Stay tuned.

Im not whining Chriss! 32 year old men dont whine. I was simply giving my feedback on this product and current products. Sorry every one isn’t gonna sugar coat everything and kiss you know what all the time. Its not our problem, the nfl license costs so much. Our hobbies and collections mean so much to us, and our ideas and thoughts should never be overlooked. I have been faithful to my hobby for nearly 25 years now, and have and seen almost every card. I love high end products, just think there should be maybe five, one hundred dollar box/pack products for each sport a year. Any more.. then they get mixed together and then the same hits or inserts are coming up as leftovers or fill ins on other products. May not be totally correct but thats the way a collector see’s it. I love the idea of havin two bigger end boxes. May one to start to season of boxes, then a big boy in the middle and the coat it with that all mights NT to leave collectors in aww till the draft. As they do and kudos for that. So, sorry Chris if I was “whining” too much. Just thought Tracy would like input of a honest collector and not the typical OMG this is amazing, Im drooling, can I get a checklist, is Brett Frave in a jets uni in this product type of question. Ill be here, to be impressed and sure I will be at times. Good luck with the year and products.

Someone stated in a prior post and u agree; Prominence seems to blend many of the most exciting and dynamic elements of other Panini products. The incorporation of game-used with autos renders the rookie releases, particularly those of high profile rooks as must-get cards!
