2012 Prestige Football: Nine Nasty Sales and One Insane Asking Price (Must-See Gallery)

July 2, 2012

In the few days since Panini America’s 2012 Prestige Football went live, one thing is certain. The product is more than living up to pre-release hype. The first 2012 NFL product on the market to include members of the new rookie class in their NFL uniforms has generated several eye-popping sales since releasing late last week.

Among the most intriguing to date: An Andrew Luck Prestigious Picks Patch Autograph that changed hands for $425, a base Prestige Autograph of Robert Griffin III that sold for $399.95 and a copy of Eric LeGrand’s Base SSP Rookie Card that drew $46.99.

Of course, the below gallery with accompanying sale prices can’t hold a flame to the asking price for an autographed copy of Griffin’s Draft Day Variation RC, a robust $1,499.99. Stay tuned on that one. But for now, check out these preliminary sales on key 2012 Prestige Football singles:

The buzz about the year’s first full-fledged football release was palpable at the card show this weekend, the desire from collectors for their team’s initial rookies in their pro uniforms all but drove the room (other than some enthusiasm for Panini’s Rookie Anthology hockey, a friend broke 6 boxes that morning). Dealers were looking to acquire the newest cards for their customers and buyers were looking for cards with updated stats, limited print runs and a few Jets fans were chasing down the Tebow inserts all over the room. These prices aren’t as shocking as some might think, they’re probably closer to the rule than the exception in some instances. Thanks for the article Tracy!

Sweet sales. I saw that even base card rookies of Luck or Rg3 were selling for over 10 a piece. Thats insane for a base rookie card!

I too like Prestige this year. Its much better then last years product. The shiny coating gives it a better feel and you do get a good bang for a buck. I only bought 4 packs and hit a Fleener auto and base Luck numbered to 999 and a Draft day destinations RG3 so I was happy with the break. Look forward to breaking so more, and I got the very first Claiborne jersey card on ebay last night and its numbered to 25. Want a Luck auto and plan on chasing it, atleast until the next release, because those cards Tracy showed last week were amazing.

Print runs on the base rookie autographs are on the back. I believe the Luck, RG3, and Richardson are all numbered to 299. I don’t think the rookie inserts have print runs on the back…the patch autos might, I haven’t seen one.

I believe they are are referring to the short print variation rookies autos with the draft day pictures. Would be so much easier to just number them rather than wasting everyones time and release the list three weeks later
