Redskins QB Robert Griffin III Wins Week 4 2012 Pepsi Max NFL Rookie of the Week

October 5, 2012

Voters on NFL.com have made their choice. Quarterback Robert Griffin III of the Washington Redskins is the Pepsi Max NFL Rookie of the Week for games played from September 27  to October 1, the NFL announced today. In Week 4, Griffin completed 26-of-35 passes for 323 yards and rushed for 43 yards and a touchdown. He also engineered a game-winning field goal drive in the final minute as the Redskins defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 24-22.

Griffin was selected from among five finalists through fan votes on NFL.com. The other finalists were running back Brandon Bolden of the New England Patriots, linebacker Vontaze Burfict of the Cincinnati Bengals, quarterback Ryan Tannehill of the Miami Dolphins and kicker Greg Zuerlein of the St. Louis Rams.

After the regular season, five players will be nominated for Pepsi MAX NFL Rookie of the Year honors. Fans can vote for the winner on NFL.com throughout the month of January. The Pepsi MAX NFL Rookie of the Year will be announced at the second annual “NFL Honors” awards show in New Orleans on Saturday, February 2, the night before Super Bowl XLVII.

In conjunction with the 2012 Pepsi Max NFL Rookie of the Week promotion, Panini America produces virtual trading cards of each week’s five nominees and a virtual card for each week’s winner.

I am three for four so far this year. For me anyways, its hard to pick an early favorite for ROY.

Robert Griffin III should handily win the 2012 ROY honors. This is one of the better rookie QB classes we’ve seen in a while but RG3 is coming into the NFL and doing things that people thought were no longer possible. RG3 has my early vote for Rookie of the Year. I wonder how many people have won the Heisman and the NFL Rookie of the Year in their next season?
