“The Knight’s Lance” Turns 2 Next Week . . . But We’re Giving You the Presents

October 16, 2012

Next Monday, The Knight’s Lance will celebrate two exhilarating years as the official blog of Panini America. And to honor the occasion, we’re planning a special celebration honoring the most memorable posts, products, videos, players and people of the last 730 days or so.

But like just about everything else associated with The Knight’s Lance from the beginning, we can’t do it without you. So as we begin the countdown to our blogoversary, we’re going to be looking to our loyal readers for their favorite memories from the first two years. In exchange for your feedback, we’re giving away daily prizes.

Today, all we want from you is two things:

1. For you to subscribe to The Knight’s Lance by clicking the “Sign me up!” button in the top right corner. That way, you’ll receive an email from us notifying you of every new post. (If you’re already a subscriber, well, thank you. You’re halfway there.)

2. For you to tell us your single favorite or most memorable Knight’s Lance post from the last two years.

At the end of the day, we’ll select two winners at random and reward them with an unopened box of Panini America trading cards. That’s it for today. Stay tuned tomorrow as the countdown to our second blogoversary continues.

Back when you used to do guess the autograph

It was so much fun trying to guess who signed the card, and it was a lot more difficult then I thought it was going to be. The older players were easy, but some of the new ones were very hard.

Also the Ryan Kesler game used stick videos were cool. It was awesome to see it used in a game, and then put into a card.

    Thanks for the two years!

I just got started collecting again this year so I wasn’t around for the first year of your life but after discovering Panini and the blog I have been a faithful reader and I have to say the most memorable thing I have seen is the production video of the Kessler stick from Acquisition to Packing. That was simply the most amazing thing I have seen, keep up the amazing work and great products.

My favorite post was from June of this year, which previewed the special Father’s Day sets you distributed to the local shops. I bought a couple of football packs that day and signed up to win the Father’s Day cards. I didn’t win, but I met a really good group of guys at the shop. There was a TON of excitement surrounding that promotion.

When I was in Afghanistan and I saw my smiling (ugly) mug being “spotlighted” on the Knights Lance, back on Memorial Day! What Panini did for me was much more than I could have ever imagined.
Happy to report that I made it home safely. All I ask is that everyone continue to keep all men and women fighting in their thoughts and prayers!
Keep up the fantastic work, Panini!!

My favorite has to be your post about Martin Brodeur’s Dominion redemptions. Thanks to hearing first from you guys about Brodeur sending in his cards right after the release of Dominion, I was able to get my hands on a few redemptions of “devilish beauty” at a fairly reasonable cost. The best part is that I don’t have to wait long for the cards to come in the mail! Thanks again!

I would have to go with the post y’all did early in your Blog days when @paniniamerica took over in the industry with it’s HRX Video cards from Totally Certified Basketball and Blake Griffin made an appearance to help showcase his awesome card…Those cards were a huge success and definitely changed the card business! I am still on the hunt for that Blake Griffin or John Wall HRX Video Card…however, i did score a TIm Tebow HRX Video Card out of Totally Certified Football last year and would be willing to trade it should anybody have a HRX Video Card of either of those guys! Thanks for the great products and the awesome giveaways!

My favorite if one of your more recent posts about Ryan Kesler’s stick card on how it was made from start to finish. It offered such a wonderful insight into how the cards are made and how difficult it is to make them. That one was surely worth the reblog!!! Good luck and happy Paniniblogerversary! or is that Paniniversary, or is that ah nm… its a great blog

How to pick just one out of so many great moments? For me, I was blown away by the 2010-11 Dominion preview where you showed off the Carey Price/Josh Gorges Tag Team Combos 1/1. That has been the card of my dreams ever since and just seeing such a card – of two of my most-collected players – was just incredible. Who knows, maybe one day I’ll actually be able to land it! I wouldn’t say I have a single favorite post because all of them are truly amazing, but my most memorable would be the collection of posts from February regarding the inflation of Jeremy Lin rookie cards. This 1-2 week period made me hooked to The Knight’s Lance because reading how the value of his rookie cards skyrocketed more than 10 times its previous value was incredible. My favourite memory was the video of making the game used stick cards of Ryan Kessler in dominion hockey. It showed the amount of hard work panini puts in to acquire their items to assure they are game uses, the process of tagging, cutting and marking the game used piece as a puzzle and the entire process of putting the cards together as a system. Finally then packing them up for us to enjoy. This is just a simple reminder of the lengths panini does for us the collector!

  42. October 16, 2012 2:27 pm

It is next to impossible to pick just one moment or post. The behind the scenes videos of the Ryan Kesler stick and the Bear Bryant hat were amazingly insightful. The steady stream and vast amounts of information found on The Knight’s Lance has provided for me a pre-release base of knowledge that translates to a confidence in my purchases and met expectations of the contents of the boxes. Tom Key’s editorial additions to the box breaks have added a great familiar comedic touch that makes the videos transcend the ordinary. But the Gondola ride in Italy is unforgettable… for many reasons.

    Congrats on two years!

I have been following your “The Knight’s Lance” since the very start. Watching it grow and become a thriving community has been a fascinating perspective on the relevance of social media.
    That said.., favorite post…
“Panini secures rights to Team USA Baseball.” There have been many good posts… the first mega-collector post was nice also, for accolades for collecting accomplishments are always nice…but I keep coming back to the Team USA Post. That Panini places value upon that niche product is critical, for it represents Panini’s stance within the hobby as a whole. Team USA Baseball is near and dear to the hearts of many collectors, and I’m thrilled that the product has been picked up by Panini.
    ‘Nuff said.

Well, first Id like to thank Tracy and the guys at Panini for starting such a great and much appreciated blog, for us card collectors to get the latest up to the minute access to all our favorite new products and the stages of them being made!! Its awesome to get behind the scenes look in, to let the collector to know what products their gonna really like and the ones we need to bolster our bank accounts for. There has been so many favorite posts on here for me, anywhere from the 2011 National Treasures Football look in on all the Rookie patch auto cards and beautiful patch cards of Hall of Famer’s and current favorite players. Lets not forget the Reebok tag autographs, that to this date are my favorite football cards! Like I said before there has been so many posts. I love all the Dominion coverage, from the Ryan K stick process, it was awesome to see the whole story from getting the stick from the athlete to back at the factory to the preparing of the stick to being cut down so each of his fans could have a shot to own a piece of his game used stick on a great card! Recently, Ive been thriving for some basketball love, and sure enough I come on the Knights lance to see the Absolute sneak peeks of some one of a kind patch cards, that the basketball community thrives on.I can not wait ill it comes out, and want to chase quiet a few of the beauties that are gonna be chases threw the product. Well, I could go on probably all night about all the great posts and up to the minute info you at Panini provide for us fans. Im gonna end this post with a Huge thank you to Tracy Hackler and everyone who has worked so hard to give us everything we need to be even more excited about our passion’s of sport card collecting! It really means alot to me, I want you to know that. No card company goes out like you guys do, to show you customer love and it needs to be noticed. Thanks for everything and keep up the excellent work, even though I think you guys already give us more then enough. Its seems Im always gasping for air, everytime you post new products. Been a Heck of year, and I know it will only get better. All the best to one of, if not my favorite blogs The Knights Lance :)

Wow! Well, happy 2-year blogoversary! My favorite blog posts:

#1-I know it is a shamless self-promoting plug, but my boys and I appeared in the National Convention Thursday Blog video from this past summer. About 15 seconds of pure hobby stardom, that was! That got me interested in the blog in the first place.

#2-Making of the Ryan Kessler game-used cards video. Totally cool!

#3-Off of that video, there was a related one showing how the Prime Numbers Die Cut cards from Elite were made with the laser. That was just a notch under the Kessler Stick card videos in my book!

Day 2, I convinced the wife to go back to the Panini booth and do some asking around, and there I ran into the infamous Tracy Hackler. We had a great chat about the hobby and the Fan-Fest itself. He even had some into about the shield I was trying to track down. Just all sorts of fantastic. That shield is now in my Rick Nash PC. I haven’t been a member for only a few months so I’m limited in what I can select from. So that being said I think the post that announced the signing of Andrew Luck ranks right up there. He fits perfectly into the Panini family. A stand up guy and player, who puts everyone before him, is the same philosophy Panini follows with its customers. And it says a lot about Panini having chosen a player with not only great character, but also a great role model for all kids and those who choose to follow in his path.

The post that comes to mind (probably because it’s really recent) is the 2012 Prime Hockey with the laces from player’s jerseys. That is just genius. Panini is the most creative card company by a landslide. You have singlehandedly saved the sports card business with your new ideas and quality products. I can only hope that you acquire rights to produce MLB cards because, frankly, Topps ain’t getting the job done. You guys are clearly the gold standard in trading cards, and I look forward to many more years of Panini excellence. Happy anniversary!

mine was probably the Dec. 8, 2010 blog titled “Constructing a cut autograph” it was cool seeing how cuts are made, and the attention to detail involved.

“Cuts” are probably one the the most sought after cards, and seeing them built from start to finish really re-instated the value that they bring.

Secondly was the Contenders football “gold card” watch ….. after seeing the cards in person it was fun tracking where they landed across North America :)

Thanks for the great contest :)

How can the favorite post of the last two years, been here everyday since :), not be the dance craze known as “The Hackler” in the Justin Bieber Box break video. I still watch it.

  85. October 16, 2012 4:50 pm

In looking back at the blog, several reasons why I like it come to mind:

1-behind the scenes videos. Love seeing how cards are made/packaged/etc. Unless you work for a card company, where else can we find such info?

2-Chances to win stuff. ‘Nuf said there!

3-Previews of upcoming products. Unfortunately, not as many cards shops left. Fewer card shows as well. It is tougher to be involved and find out what’s coming up than in years past. Even if I don’t collect a certain sport or type of product, it is cool to get info about it anyway. Who hasn’t checked out ebay a week or so after a product releases to see what the highest value hits were??

4-Hobby enthusiasm. I’ve been collecting since I was 9. I love the hobby overall. Spent my fair share over the years. Where else can I find like-minded people? Or, for that matter, a like-minded company? Right here, that’s where!

5-Asking questions. Many blog posts ask us what we think. It is nice to be able to give an opinion about something we care about to someone who is asking!!

All in all, I look forward to checking out this blog every day. Great stuff! Looking forward to more in the years to come.

    Thanks!!

How do I pick just one post? No, seriously how am I supposed to pick just one post that is my favorite when every time you put basketball related news, photos, contests, only found here information and all things Panini basketball related I lose my mind because I love it all. The post regarding the lucky collector who found the golden ticket and got to meet the Black Mamba himself and then got all that incredible memorabilia has got to be *one* of my favorites. Haven’t been around as long as others. Only been seriously collecting since February or so.

My favorite post was the first preview for 2012 Prestige.

As I am a “noob” to the collectible card scene, I had marveled at how striking some of the card designs were. (Crown Royale, Contenders, etc.) Recent years’ Prestige in comparison were basically boring and not appealing to collect.

When I saw that preview, I was really blown away with the changes and loved them all. So far it is still my favorite Panini set of the year thus far. It really made the first set of the year stand out and get me excited for the whole cycle of 2012. I don’t buy by the case, but what I am able to pick up is always Panini and that post was one of the main reasons why I was so interested in the brand.

I enjoyed all of the National Coverage. I was fortunate enough to go several years ago and really want to go back.

My favorite was the Ryan Kesler stick to card video and not to mention the user submitted video which book ended the project. I’d love to see more of those behind the scene videos!
