The Panini America QC Gallery & Checklist: 2012-13 Classics Signatures Hockey

November 29, 2012

Make no mistake about it: Panini America’s 2012-13 Classics Signatures Hockey is the right release at the right time — and there might not be a more appropriate product name the rest of the season. An old-school-hockey lover’s dream,  this one-autograph-per-pack gem is filled with, as its name suggests, classic signatures galore.

Graced with a refreshingly simplistic throwback design and a checklist that reads like a best-selling hockey history book, Classics Signatures is steeped in on-card autographs and marks the anticipated return of Panini America’s Social Signatures and Notable Nicknames inserts.

Although most six-pack boxes will deliver six autographs, there are randomly inserted Hot Boxes that will yield eight autographs. Earlier this week, Panini America’s Chris Barr and Karvin Cheung placed Classics Signatures under heavy scrutiny during the quality control process. The following gallery details just some of their prize pulls.

After you’ve had your way with the gallery, stick around for two different checklists — one covering the set and another documenting the SPs. We can’t wait to hear your thoughts on what you see here, as well as what you’ll find yourself when the product releases next Wednesday.

Enjoy.

Retired Numbers look great!Would have really liked if they were signed but can understand that a lot of the retired are not around anymore…how big is the retired numbers set in total…looks like something I would be interested in putting together…as for the others they are pretty sweet and look real good ..another solid solid product..

I like the style a lot.

Hard-signed, you say? Hmmmm… depending on the price point this could be one of the better sets of the year.

Wow, that Mario card looks sick, especially since it’s hard signed. Wish more of the hockey cards would be hard signed like that!

Looks like another solid release, nice filler for puck fans without their sport at the moment. I quit collecting back in 1994 but that Lemieux might be enough to bring me back! Thanks Tracy!

Those retired number banner cards are, as the kids says, off the chain!

    Tracy,
We are so hungry for hockey, I can’t wait for this product with this classic veteran checklist and autos. Can you show me a peek of the Vanbiesbrouck auto? All of his autos on the Panthers take me back to my childhood.
    Thanks and great work.

Do the commons have full year by year career stats of those players on the back or just a single line of career stats?

    • November 30, 2012 4:39 pm

      Just a career stat line.

Ok cool glad it’s being done anyways since we don’t see enough wide releases for ex-players excluding the big names but I hope in the future Panini can add multiple seasons to the stats because that’s what really helps tell the story about the player.

This product looks absolutely great! Definitely the right approach to make a product with legends only now during the lockout. Would love to open some packs together with my dad, so he could tell some more facts about the historical players!

$180/box $30/pack price point, I think its too high for the names used in the set. What are the odds of hitting a value card?

  25. December 6, 2012 8:20 pm

Huge fail thinking collectors would dish out 30 bucks a pack. It’s already discounted here by 40 bucks a box just to recoup funds by the local LCS.
