Panini America Offers Saturday Sneak Peek of 2012-13 Marquee Basketball (Gallery)

January 19, 2013

2012-13 Marquee Basketball Main

A 2012-13 NBA collecting season highlighted so far by the whiz-bang wizardry of several new printing technologies — the debut of Prizm Basketball, Limited Basketball’s autographed die-cut acetate RCs, the spinning memorabilia cards seen in both Absolute Basketball and Timeless Treasures Basketball — is about to get a whole lot more intriguing thanks to Panini America’s all-new 2012-13 Marquee Basketball.

Wielding such wicked wonders as laser-cutting, black holographic film board, more acetate and the introduction of the wild “Swirlorama” effect, 2012-13 Marquee Basketball promises an entertaining, fun and highly collectible experience.

Each 20-pack box (eight cards per pack) will deliver three autographs and a whopping 35 Rookie Cards from one of five unique rookie subsets — each incorporating vastly different technologies. Featuring a 150-card base set, Marquee is bolstered by five autograph inserts (including a 25-card coaches insert) and five uniquely designed inserts.

Among the highlights:

  • The Rookie Signatures insert full of the NBA’s most exciting young playmakers
  • The 20-card Stars of the Night insert that incorporates black holographic film board
  • 20 dazzling, dizzying Slam Dunk Legends featuring the aforementioned “Swirlorama” substrate
  • The 20-card Champions insert printed on the see-through splendor of acetate stock
  • The entertainingly designed Election Night Autographs honoring some of basketball’s greatest Hall of Famers
  • The laser-cut collectibility of 80 Group III Rookies
  • Other inserts such as Rookie Rivals and All-Rookie Team

We’ll have much information on this creative addition to Panini America’s 2012-13 NBA roster right here on The Knight’s Lance as soon as it becomes available. Until then, enjoy this first extended look at 2012-13 Marquee Basketball.

To be completely honest, these first images dont really strike me as this product being completely different than most of the other stuff we have seen so far this season.
We have just had the Absolute heroes autos and these election night autos look really similar.
The rookies again are looking to be regular base cards with just an auto on it, which to me resembles the Contenders rookie autos a lot. Those had the inky backgrounds, with just the minor cloudy touch on these Marquee as difference.
I see a ton of nice rookie patch autographs in football and hockey, those extremely nice booklet patch/autos in playbook. But yet after 9 nba products this season we are still to see the first rookie patch/autos for basketball.
Please Tracy tell me that you guys have some nice patch/autos lined up for future releases, because everything is really starting to look alike. Just my humble opinion though!

I really like the look of the Slam Dunk Legends. I can’t wait to see them. I’ve been waiting a long time to see cards like that again. The set would also make for a great looking autographed cards.

Stars of the Night should be a visually appealing set as well. They have a nice design to them, but it’s impossible to appreciate them through a picture.

I can’t wait to see a bigger gallery!

Slam Dunk Legends…sounds like what I was asking for in a recent blog. I’m anxious to see those inserts on video before passing judgment, but I have a feeling that the pics above won’t do the cards justice.

Liking the look of “Slam Dunk Legends” I’m guessing they look pretty damn fine in person. The “Election Night” cards look great too a touch of Panini Classics to them.

Pretty sweet looking stuff as always. So far Panini NBA has been very impressive this season. And it has made up for the lack of products from last.

A white backdrop for the base? Really? It seems like Panini is really running low on ideas.
