2012 Pepsi Max NFL Rookie of the Week Set Hits Target in Contenders Football Retail

February 15, 2013

Panini America 2012 Pepsi Max ROY Set (15)

Two of the most-asked questions regarding the recently completed 2012 Pepsi Max NFL Rookie of the Week program revolved around the unique Panini America virtual trading cards created to honor each of the 17 weekly winners. They’re questions we got seemingly every week during the 2012 NFL season and questions we still get today.

Those questions: Would the virtual trading cards ever become reality and, if so, in which product would they appear. Today, we’re proud to announce that the cards have indeed become reality, and they’re randomly inserted exclusively in the Target retail version of 2012 Contenders Football that will start hitting store shelves later this month.

In addition to producing a 17-card insert set highlighting each week’s winners (which is showcased in all of its glory in the gallery that follows), Panini America officials also included special 2012 Prizm Football Red Prizm Die-Cut versions of the five 2012 Pepsi Max NFL Rookie of the Year finalists: Panini Authentic exclusive Andrew Luck, Rookie of the Year winner Robert Griffin III, Russell Wilson, Alfred Morris and Doug Martin.

Each of the specially stamped Red Prizm Die-Cuts, previously available as hobby-only inserts in 2012 Prizm Football, will be limited to less than 35 copies. We’ve included those in the gallery, too. This final chapter in the 2012 Pepsi Max NFL Rookie of the Week program should provide an exciting chase for collectors and a decided jolt to 2012 Contenders Football in Target stores across the country.

Last year, Panini America inserted 2011 Pepsi Max NFL Rookie of the Week cards into 2011 Totally Certified Football.

Cool. I like this inclusion in the retail product. My favorite has to be the week one RG III.

Thank you for providing some REAL value to retail product. Not everyone can afford or have access to local card shops for the Hobby version and this provides the “Thrill of the chase” experience for everyone.

Very happy to this this set come out as a physical product, I always thought it was a shame to not create actual cards since the virtual ones looked so great. Looks like I’ll be surfing the Targets in my area again soon, just found the first packs of retial Prizm there yesterday. Thanks Tracy!

I really like the inclusion of this insert set in retail. I hope I’ll be able to complete this awesome set! Did anyone else see a reoccurring theme in the cards? Redskins players won rookie of the week 11 out of 17 weeks! That’s crazy!
