Prince Charming: Amukamara Impresses in 2012 NFL Player of the Day Appearance

UNION, N.J. — When the phone rang last Saturday morning as Panini America officials were going through the final frantic stages of preparing for Hakeem Nicks to deliver the 2012 NFL Player of the Day grand prize to winner Frank Rosato and Steve Mandy at Attack of the Baseball Cards, the news on the other end of the line wasn’t the best.

Nicks, as it turns out, had to cancel due to an emergency. With absolutely no time to waste, Panini America and the NFLPA kicked things into John Elway mode to pull off a two-minute drill for the ages. Through a series of phone calls and tons of behind-the-scenes wizardry, Panini America secured the services of another Super Bowl-winning New York Giant to save the day.

The hero? Defensive back Prince Amukamara, who had the time, the willingness and the uncanny grace to deliver one truly remarkable experience. He was the NFL Player of the Day that turned in enough memories to last a lifetime. You’ll see exactly what we mean in the following video and images.

Here’s the must-see video:

In an age of far too many uncaring millionaire athletes, it was so nice to meet one who truly cares. Prince Amukamara earned the right to be treated as true royalty for life in my store. He went above & beyond especially with the youngest collectors. To those at Panini & the NFLPA, on scene & behind, who worked so very hard to make sure the show went on, you have earned my total respect & gratitude. Thank you all for allowing my store to be the stage for this remarkable effort.
