Panini Peek: 2013-14 Intrigue Basketball

January 16, 2014

Panini America 2013-14 Intrigue Basketball Main

Out of all of the never-been-done-before NBA products that Panini America introduced during the 2012-13 season, perhaps none was more intriguing than Intrigue. And when collectors had the opportunity to dig deeper into that product when it released last September, the thing that seemed to resonate with them the most was the dazzling, completely microetched chase of the Intriguing Players insert. But for 2013-14 Intrigue Basketball, Panini America is cutting those out. Literally.

When the second installment of the product releases in late April, collectors will immediately notice a difference in the Intriguing Players insert: Die-cutting on 20 of the NBA’s top players who are featured with multiple collectible variations numbered to as low as one. Every 11-card box of 2013-14 Intrigue Basketball will deliver four autograph or memorabilia cards and five Intriguing Players.

2013-14 Intrigue Basketball also features . . .

  • Four unique autograph memorabilia inserts, including the sport’s all-time greats in Hall Dwellers Autographs.
  • Four unique on-card autographs inserts, including the game’s top aerial acrobats in Slam Ink.
  • The return of dual, trio and quad memorabilia cards grouping the game’s best players together.
  • First Flight Unis: Revisit the NBA’s top stars in their first team’s uniforms.
  • Rookie Impact Autographs: Look for autographs from the NBA’s 2013 Rookie Class, led by the
  • 76ers’ Michael Carter-Williams.
  • Winning Ink: What does it feel like to hoist the Larry O’Brien Trophy? Just ask these titlists in this hard-to-pull autograph set.
  • Slam Ink: The NBA’s high flyers are on display in this slam dunk of an insert.
  • Rookie Autograph Memorabilia: See the 2013-14 rookie class at its best and brightest in this autograph memorabilia gem.

We’ll have plenty more on 2013-14 Intrigue Basketball in the coming weeks right here on The Knight’s Lance. But until then, check out this first extended sneak peek:

    Very nice cards and product!

My one concern is that I’m not sure if I like the clashing of the autograph OVER the Intrigue product logo. As I said, it clashes and makes it look a little messy.

Other than that, I continue to love the Intrigue!

Love it. I think I may collect this set this year. As of now all I’ve been collecting in basketball is the much improved Timeless Treasures. They have a vintage (not retro) antique vibe. Intrigue is a modern classy look. Next year tho.. I’ll be buying all things basketball as I did with 2012 football. Black football…the best. So here’s to next years draft, and hoping to see Jabari Parker with the Jazz. He has ties to Utah, and with the rumor of Sloan coming out of retirement, Parker could be the last piece of a young team returning to annual contenders. Plus with the Jazz able to steal Trey Burke in the draft and seeing him exceed expectations at the point the future looks very good.
