Having a Blast(er): Panini America Previews a 2014 Score Football Retail Blaster Box

June 21, 2014

Panini America 2014 Score Football Retail Blaster (1)

It’s safe to assume by now, after more than a week on the retail market, that the colorful 2014 Score Football has had the chance to make its unique presence felt on collectors. It’s fun . . . it’s affordable . . . it’s packed with the hottest rookies . . . it’s updated with all of the key players who changed teams in the offseason . . . and it’s delivering an autograph or memorabilia card roughly once every two boxes. In short, 2014 Score Football it’s a blast. It’s also a blaster — or least available in blaster form.

The product’s 11-pack retail blasters began shipping to retail outlets late this week, offering 132 total cards and at least one autograph, memorabilia or unique Team Helmets insert in every box. Earlier this week, Panini America Director of Sales Tim Franz hand delivered a sealed 2014 Score Football retail blaster to the marketing office so we could preview the goods right here on The Knight’s Lance. So that’s exactly what we’re going to do today.

Truth be told, we made quick work of the 11 packs inside, uncovering a whopping 27 Rookie Cards and 13 inserts. It wasn’t until our 11th and final pack, though, that we pulled our guaranteed hit, a nifty Team Helmets insert of a certain high-profile rookie quarterback from the state of Texas who has exclusive ties to Panini America.

While you probably have a pretty good idea of exactly who that is, we’ll let the following gallery provide the definitive answer. Enjoy the preview and stay tuned to The Knight’s Lance for additional coverage of 2014 Score Football.

Score is a fun break every year and this year is no different. Very nice hit in this box, the buzz on Manziel is at a crazy level right now. Thanks Tracy!

From Tim Franz, our Director of Sales: “The preliminary solicitation odds were based on a 36-pack retail box; we converted this box to a 24-pack box.”

My boys and I bought a box and didn’t get an auto or a memorabilia card. I see the response that it’s based on 36 packs and not 24. Seems a little after the fact, doesn’t it? I mean, you put out releases based on 36 but at what point did you switch to 24 packs a box? Seems to me someone dropped the ball there.

Pretty disappointing when you’re boys ask you why they didn’t get a special card when they read that there is one in a box.

Guess we need stick to the blaster boxes. Maybe then we’ll get something.

And yes, I know there are no guarantees in life and that it’s all odds/averages. Just disappointed.

I don’t understand why at $20 a box there can’t be better cards. Some numbered or even an auto on the less popular players. I don’t mean #/5 or anything. # /250 /500 would be fine. I don’t think many people realize that there really aren’t that many Sportscard hobby stores out there in comparison with the population. Target and Walmart are all a lot of us have. Yes we have online but then you add shipping costs on top of it. There are some better cards in this release but some of these retail boxes are a waste of money with both Panini and Topps.

      Hey man,

I bought a Blaster of Score on Saturday, and got a Matt Cassel numbered to /99.

I wanted to buy some score but from what I’ve read many people are going hitless in their retail/hobby full box breaks.

Bought a blaster for my kids last weekend. Not one relic/auto/patch card. Box says guaranteed on the side. Guess our box got missed?

I realized just now, we didn’t keep all the packs in the blaster. They had some friends they gave a couple packs too, trying to get them into cards. If we had a relic/auto/patch, it was in those couple packs. Disregard my comment prior. Sorry Score. My mind is a terrible thing to waste.

I should have stuck to blaster boxes. The 24 pack box was very disappointing. I didn’t know of the switch of pack sizes so now boxes might not have a hit in them. Places like dacardworld need to pull down the guarantee per box before more might complain.
