Gallery: 2010-11 Playoff Contenders Patches Basketball Rookie Ticket Variations (Part 1)

February 22, 2011

Of the myriad compelling components built into 2010-11 Playoff Contenders Patches Basketball, perhaps the one generating the most pre-release buzz is the completely overhauled Rookie Ticket Rookie Card subset.

More specifically, the Rookie Ticket’s namesake team patch logo variations that give each of the 50 rookies in the set two distinct variations. While the base team logo version for each player serves as the product’s standard Rookie Card, it’s the alternate team logo version — sporting seldom-seen secondary NBA team logos — that provide the subset with a short-printed chase.

It’s worth noting that each variation sports a different card number, giving each rookie in the set two different base cards for collectors to track. The hunt begins in earnest tomorrow, when the product goes live in hobby shops across the country.

To help you become familiar with what exactly you’ll be looking for, we’ve put together this partial gallery of logo variations for 15 teams. We’ll profile the other 15 team variations later in the week. Until then, enjoy the hunt and get more information on 2010-11 Playoff Contenders Patches Basketball here and here.

cards look nice, sure wish theze players could sign their names were people could atleast make out a few letters. The education system has failed once again!

I know plenty of educated people with terrible handwriting. They’re called doctors.

As for the product, I know our shop is really looking forward to the release! Thanks for the variation info Tracy.

Liking these Rookie Patches. Lots of bright and vibrant colors. I really like that the design team went with team colors on the boarders of the card to match the colors in the patch. Brings everything together.

Ohhh, this sweet! Mouthwatering even! I am so in love with the patch idea. The alternate logo sub set, great idea, it looks like this Basketball set has a few different things that the football set doesn’t. Now if only there was golden tickets in Contenders Basketball…. 🙂 This set is sure to be a hit, just like (but a little different than…) Contenders Football. Great job! Now excuse me while I pick my jaw off the floor and mop up some saliva!

That’s fine if I knew which one was the normal and which was the alternate.

Sorry about that. In this particular gallery, I believe the alternate logos are as follows. Another way to spot the variations: The higher of the two card numbers for each player. I hope this helps.

      Warriors — Right
      Timberwolves — Left
      Suns — Right
      Spurs — Left
      Pistons — Left
      Pacers — Left
      Knicks — Right
      Jazz — Left
      Hornets — Left
      Grizzlies — Right
      Clippers — Right
      Celtics — Left
      Bulls — Left
      Bobcats — Right
      Blazers — Right

Man they look fantastic. I was looking at the Topps Five Star Football and thinking about getting a box. Instead I got 4 boxes of this. These cards are worth the money. I know basketball over football but still.

I think I speak for all of us here when I say: “Congratulations. You made an excellent choice.” Thanks a lot, man.

The t-wolves alternate logo is awesome. This is the way to do a variant set. You guys are on fire , this and then Contenders football both have so much going.

Hey guys…love the card design but all of the advertisements/sell sheets said “at least 3 auto patches per box with one being a lottery pick.” From the product I have opened and have seen others open, this is not the case. Can someone please comment on this issue?

I’ll check with Product Development first thing tomorrow and get back to you.
