Insert Insight: Exploring 2010-11 Playoff Contenders Hockey’s Leather Larceny

April 22, 2011

The magical, mysterious masked mystique of hockey’s goalie easily makes the position one of the most collected in all of sports. Indeed, there’s an undeniable allure to the NHL’s top netminders that always has translated so beautifully to the trading card form.

And thanks to a unique insert set in the forthcoming — and highly anticipated — inaugural edition of 2010-11 Playoff Contenders Hockey, the game’s most prolific puck-pilfering, head-standing Houdinis take center stage yet again, perhaps more vividly and vibrantly than ever.

Leather Larceny is an 18-card tribute to today’s top stoppers that features captivating photography and an unmistakably bright design printed on laminated leather stock, giving mad love to the game’s most gifted gloves — and the superstars who wear them.

There’s a base version of the set that falls roughly once per box and a Leather Larceny Autographs parallel numbered to 50 or less. Signed or not, the innovative insert — shown in all of its biscuit-blocking beauty below (all 18 fronts and backs!) — injects Playoff Contenders Hockey with a tangibly different, goalie-focused feel sure to grip even the most discriminating hockey purists.

See for yourself . . .

My favorite position!!! You guys have done an amazing job this year! Score Net Cam, Donruss Les Gardiens, Crown Royale In Harms Way, Limited Brothers in Arms, Certified Masked Marvels, some of my favorite cards to collect. Really looking forward to these inserts. Thanks for doing such a great job representing Goalies!

SEVERELY disappointed you couldn’t get one LA Kings goalie in the set in lieu of one of the Tampa Bay Lightning goalies.

I guarantee most would agree with me that a Jonathan Quick or Jonathan Bernier would be a preferred pull to Dwayne Rolsson or Mike Smith…………

That all said, the set looks outstanding, love the design, color scheme and the area to sign. Nice work gentlemen.

I’m a lightning fan and I would have to agree with you. Surprised that Smith made the cut.

You guys wanna revise that checklist and get a Jon Quick card in there after last night’s performance? I’ll accept some cards of him in Dominion as a trade off. 😉
