Panini Peek: 2011 Donruss Limited Cuts

October 17, 2011

Panini America has taken its Americana concept many different directions since releasing that first product back in 2007. But in late December, the company will elevate the bar unlike ever before with 2011 Donruss Limited Cuts, a decadent cut-autograph-per-pack release that will likely change the genre forever.

2011 Donruss Limited Cuts will deliver cut autographs from the most legendary names of all time from the worlds of sports, politics, entertainment and pop culture in one dynamite package that will most certainly find a home with high-end autograph hunters and well-heeled thrill-seekers alike.

The historic new release, packaged with one cut autograph in every pack, will feature single, dual and quad autographs and cuts from more than 140 deceased baseball Hall of Famers. Every card in the set will be numbered to 49 or less and more than 200 of the cuts will be numbered to 15 or less.

Highlights are plentiful and include . . .

  • 1/1 Quad Autograph Booklets featuring all-time great teams from the past, including the principles of the 1919 Black Sox Scandal: Eddie CicotteChick Gandel, Charles Comiskey and Kenesaw Mountain Landis
  • Dual and Quad autograph cards honoring legendary baseball teams such as the 1912 Giants, 1927 Yankees, 1929 Athletics, 1955 Dodgers, 1961 Yankees and many more
  • Cut autographs from Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, Lou Gehrig, Cy Young, Jackie Robinson, Walter Johnson, Honus Wagner and more than 140 additional deceased Hall of Famers
  • Cut signatures from other sports such as golf, boxing, football and horse racing as well as signatures from United States presidents, others from the political arena, movies, television and pop culture

We’ll have many more details to follow on 2011 Donruss Limited Cuts right here at The Knight’s Lance. But for now, enjoy this exclusive sneak peek at a product sure to send shock waves throughout the collectibles industry all winter long.

Me likey. Would’ve been nice if they would have snuck in headshots of the subjects somewhere on the card though. Otherwise, these cards look hella better than the “Legendary” cut cards put out by some other card company, which will remain unnamed.

VEry sweet!!! The Babe Ruth is awesome to say the least. And who can go wrong with one cut sig per pack. I have never gotten one at all of no one so this is a great chance for people like myself who dont own a cut signature.

Cut Auto cards are so hard to do well. I’ve seen so many “FrankenCuts.” These are amazingly well done. Wouldn’t change a thing. Autos fit the windows and are completely visible with a classy layout and design. Very elegant. The Stewart/Travers card is truly inspired. I can’t remember seeing them put together. All of the combos above are excellent!

“wow” seems to have been a well-used adjective here, so I’m going to go with, “holy smokes,” this looks like a total game-changer. I was extremely disgusted by the box-price to value return on this yeas’ Legendary Cuts, and Panini would seem to have crafted a product that could totally marginalized a product that has long had a stranglehold on this copponent of the hobby. Without more information, I think we can assume that this will be a $200-225/box price and the secondary market will take it up into the stratosphere if the average box delivers value.
