Scorching: Panini America Peeks Fireworks Insert in 2011-12 Past & Present Basketball

April 28, 2012

With the 2012 NBA Playoffs set to begin today, it’s obvious that things are about to heat up in arenas across the league. But it’s getting hot inside Panini America HQ right about now, too.

Next week, the unique 2011-12 Past & Present Basketball begins packing out with a refreshing, new-meets-old mix of players and printing technologies that should be warmly embraced by hoops collectors of all levels. And one of the coolest inclusions in the product is actually one of the hottest: The 20-card Fireworks insert.

Boasting a superstar-stacked checklist, a scorching design and a stunning high-gloss, raised-relief finish, Fireworks is almost too hot handle. Almost. Luckily, though, holding one is the best way to truly appreciate all that Fireworks has to offer. But until you’re able to do that (the product begins shipping next week), the following gallery should fan the flames of anticipation.

Enjoy. And stay tuned to The Knight’s Lance tomorrow for a sneak preview of 2011-12 Past & Present Basketball’s Raining 3s insert, another technology-tinged beauty that must be seen — and, ultimately, touched — to be appreciated.

I like the design, as well as the Monta in his Bucks uni. Not crazy about the past & present logo…might look better if it’s foil.

I haven’t seen the printed cards yet. But the product guys tell me it is fantastic. I’ll get real cards to show ASAP.

Looks amazing! Great job on the design Panini! But what does raised relief mean?

    • April 28, 2012 1:12 pm

It’s a spot-UV treatment with coating that raised. In other words you’ll be able to feel the “fire.”

These cards are on fire! Will there be an autographed version of these and if not could you show all us of us some pics of some autos preferably Kobe or Durant’s? Keep up the great work as always!!!

I don’t think there will be an autographed version of these, Nick, but I will confirm.

Indeed, no autographs with Fireworks or Raining 3s. The technology and imagery on these bad boys will stand on their own!

    It’s on fiiiiiiiiiaaaaaahhhhhhh!!!
Great work again on this insert set Panini. You guys are always tops for insert designs. so many companies have gone to the bland white background cards with a picture of a player. Nobody wants that. They want excitement to come from a pack. What you can say, Fireworks!
I also read your above comment about being able to feel the fire, thats cool. Should make a Ice Shooters insert set for my Knicks with them holding balls of ice because yesterday they couldn’t hit the rim if they tried. And they kept turning the ball over. Ball must have been, “icy”
