Panini America Teases the Stunning Debut of 2012-13 Prizm Basketball (Gallery)

September 17, 2012

I could attempt to explain the print-technology wizardry that proudly permeates the upcoming release of Panini America’s 2012-13 Prizm Basketball. But instead, I’ll let the official Product Information Sheet speak for me: “Prizm delivers a familiar, but dramatically improved, technology that has been missing from the basketball hobby.”

That description in concert with the preview images below should tell you all you need to know about this promising new addition to the Panini America NBA family.

2012-13 Prizm Basketball (six cards per pack, 20 packs per box, 12 boxes per case) features a 300-card base set including 100 rookies (the continuation of Panini America’s massive and historic Double Rookie Class), Prizms and Gold Prizms parallels, four themed insert sets and a 100-card autograph that includes Prizm variations.

The product, which ships in late October, places a premium on design- and photo-driven inserts that play to Prizm’s extraordinary print technology; each box will yield two Prizms parallels, two autographs and two additional inserts.

Other highlights include . . .

  • Etching on each card — base and insert — that brings a 3D effect to the Prizm printing technology
  • Two autograph cards per box
  • A USA Basketball insert that pays tribute to the gold-medal-winning 2012 US Basketball team with a patriotic design
  • A Finalists insert incorporating the game’s biggest champions and superstars

Stay tuned to The Knight’s Lance for additional updates on the exciting 2012-13 Prizm Basketball release. Until then, enjoy this first extended look:

Even though its a small preview…its eye catchy. Used to love the Prizm technology and now you guys brought it back. Panini keeps showing us why they are top dog in the industry. The listen to us collectors. They bring back favorites about the hobby, put a Panini twist to them and keep us all coming back for more.

I’ve always wondered why all of the comments on The Knight’s Lance seem WAY TOO over the top. “Wow! the #1 card company does it again with another masterpiece”, “Once again Panini shows why they are the best in the world”, “Unbelievable design Panini, I’d give up my 1st born for one of those” and blah blah blah. You guys simply disallow comments that point out Panini’s numerous flaws.

Absolutely not true. Constructive criticism is always encouraged and approved. If you simply want to bash us, trash and rip us to shreds, there are any number of other sites that provide you such a forum.

I always thought the inability to produce Rookie Cards for 11-12 season was due to the lockdown + No Rookie Photoshoot. However, a look at recent releases (Hoops 12-13, Prestige 12-13) that includes rookies from 12 -13 class concludes that even when the photoshoot had taken place, the photos used were either draft day suit up shots or training uniform shots. What’s up with that Panini?

I’m not going to bash you guys at Panini but I am going to make a few suggestions. I was thinking that maybe you should stop putting out so many products so that the ones you do put out kick even more ass. I think you guys are spreading yourselves a little too thin and the creativity and quality are going downhill. This would probably help with not having so many redemption’s in products too. Athletes are no different than anyone else for the most part and don’t want to spend so long signing cards in their down time. I don’t know this for fact but I would imagine with all the cards or stickers they have to sign, they start getting tired or lackadaisical about the whole process and their auto’s end up looking horrible or terribly off the sticker. Nothing sucks worse than getting a low numbered patch auto with a sticker auto on it and some of the auto is cut off. Makes getting it graded and increasing the value of it all but impossible. How about making the stickers wider? Is that a possibility? I’d rather have a huge sticker with the entire auto on it than a small one with some of the auto missing. That’s my 2 cents, but you guys are doing a great job as far as I’m concerned. I just hope the Raiders draft someone worth collecting next year. I miss not having a player to go after. If their season keeps going the way it is, I believe they will have a high draft pick, unless they trade it away for a 35 year old long snapper.

i get 2 autographs, 2 prizm cards and 2 INSERTS – does this mean i only get 2 cards for total four themed inserts (example: for the box i get 1 USA basketball and 1 finalist – and the other cards are base cards and 2 autographs and 2 prizm ?) I dont get it!
