Officials at Panini America announced their plans for the upcoming 2013 NHL Draft, being held Sunday — June 30 – at the Prudential Center, home to the New Jersey Devils. The Colorado Avalanche hold the prestigious first pick and in one of the deepest draft classes in recently years, speculation swirls about what they will do.

Will it be Defenseman Seth Jones, son of former NBAer Popeye Jones or will they go with some scoring touch and select Nathan MacKinnon?

Panini America will be onsite this weekend with all the details and news from behind the scenes. Panini America will also aim to please hockey collectors with a version of their trademark wrapper-redemption program.

Panini has developed a six-card New Jersey Devils Team Set previewing the 2013-14 Score Hockey design featuring the following players:

1         Martin Brodeur

2         Patrick Elias

3         Adam Henrique

4         Ilya Kovalchuk

5         Bryce Salvador

6         David Clarkson

In Addition, Panini has developed three cards commemorating Stanley Cup victories in the New York/New Jersey area. One card features Scott Niedermayer and pays tribute to the New Jersey Devils three Championships. Mark Messier is featured on one and highlights the end of a 54 year championship drought when he helped the New York Rangers win the Stanley Cup in 1994. The last card features Bryan Trottier and pays tribute to the New York Islanders dynasty that brought them four Stanley Cups.

Collectors will receive one of the promo packs, as well as their choice of one of the Stanley Cup tribute cards for bringing the following un-opened product to the Panini America booth:

ONE un-opened HOBBY pack of 2012-13 Rookie Anthology Hockey

Stay tuned to the Knight’s Lance on additional Draft details!

Can’t wait until next draft. I believe it’ll be in Philadelphia and I will be there if at all possible. There will be some great potential Flyers promo cards if Panini is there!!!

Yep, we are headed to Philly next year! Lindros retro card anyone???

      • June 27, 2013 12:08 pm

Lindros would be cool but some older school Clarkies, Parents, and Schultzes would be even cooler. SIGH-too long since our last Cup!

Or perhaps a mix of present (Giroux), recent past (Hextall, Lindros, LeClair) and Cup Champions (Parent, Clarke, etc.)

Is the booth part of the Fanfest where everyone can participate? Or is it inside the Prudential Center where you need a ticket.

    • June 28, 2013 12:06 pm

We’ll be set up inside the Prudential Center.

Will there be an opportunity to buy these Rookie Anthology packs at the draft, as I do not think there are any hobby shops in NY area selling them?

      • June 29, 2013 10:38 am

Yes, they should be on sale inside the Prudential Center from participating dealers.
