Book . . . Keepers: The Prime Possibilities of 2013-14 Preferred Basketball (Gallery)

July 22, 2014

Panini America 2013-14 Preferred Basketball Prime Booklets (1)

Rookie rivalries. Sibling rivalries. Conference rivalries. NBA Finals rivalries. Dynasties. Decades. Nasty jumbo patches of game-worn memorabilia. Unique 360-degree photography. Clearly, there’s a lot you can showcase in booklet-card format that might not translate quite the same on a standard 2 1/12 by 3 1/2-inch trading card format.

That’s certainly been the case with Panini America’s Preferred Basketball. The product’s recipe of offering one booklet card in every four-card box generated some of the coolest, display-worthy trading card works of art in the sports card industry in recent years. That trend promises to continue when 2013-14 Preferred Basketball officially releases tomorrow.

While we’ve done our best to showcase some of the unique booklet plot twists heading your way this year, there’s nothing like getting up close and personal with the cards to give you an intimate understanding of what awaits. So as we all anxiously count down the hours until tomorrow’s release (which for many collectors means midnight), we thought we’d offer one more glimpse at some of the booklet-card possibilities, this time focusing on the set’s scarce Prime versions of the One on One Rivalry, Two on Two Rivalry, Rookie Rotation, Jumbo, Decades, Rookies and team-focused booklets.

Why five images of each booklet? We think it’s best to showcase these beauties just as you would peruse them. First the cover, then the left side, right side, in its complete open beauty and, finally, the back.

Enjoy the late-night “reading” and stay tuned to The Knight’s Lance for continued coverage.

Hey Tracy, will there be different Europe booklets? Because there are guys like Batum, Parker, and Diaw that should be on there. Very nice, by the way.

Holy smokes, the 2nd year of this product is even more intriguing and eye-popping than last seasons’…& that is saying something.
The players assembled for each booklet have a clear relationship to one another, the patches are colorful…nobody wants to drop $250 or more on a box and get 1/C swatches, and because of their very unique nature coupled with the sense of history captured within many of the booklets, they should retain their value on the secondary market.
I would love to see a limited print run (1/2, x/5?) of auto’d Preferred booklets. Maybe the rookie booklets?
What is MSRP I’m these, Mr. Hackler?
