Panini America Offers First-Look Details on 2013-14 Prestige Basketball (Gallery)

September 9, 2013

2013-14 Prestige Basketball Main

In early November, Panini America officials will reintroduce the venerable Prestige Basketball brand to hungry hoops collectors with a re-energized 2013-14 Prestige Basketball product that will deliver two autographs, two memorabilia cards and 20 additional inserts in every 24-pack hobby box.

Featuring new-look aesthetics that remain true to those of past Prestige releases, 2013-14 Prestige Basketball also delivers a heaping helping of new inclusions, headlined by Prestigious Premieres rookie autographs, Bonus Shot Autographs and the sweet NBA Materials.

The rougly-one-per-case Playmakers cards return for 2013-14, providing an exciting hobby-only chase for player collectors. In all, 2013-14 Prestige Basketball — which features a 200-card base set — will deliver eight different sets featuring either autographs or memorabilia.

We’ll have more on 2013-14 Prestige Basketball in the coming weeks right here on The Knight’s Lance. But until then, enjoy this extended sneak-peek gallery.

Are all Distinctive Ink hard signed just like last year?

i like this NBA logo shape over the patch/jersey design.

Personally I think the Logoman over the patch detracts from the patch. It covers up to much. I’m just picturing patches with all the breaks covered up.

Love Prestige, but your “hungry hoops collectors” haven’t even finished digesting the 12/13 stuff Panini has left in the chamber. The product catalog AND release calendar are irresponsible in my opinion.

Rich, I agree completely and a number of other members of the Panini community have voiced similar sentiments. By my accounting, there are 3 ’12-’13 NBA products yet to be released. That means there are 15-20 Panini “double-rookie class” releases, and the market is already well-saturated with rookie autos, as well as veteran and retired “legends” autos…for which there is but limited demand. I have always believed that “less is more” in such instances.

Rich & Jamey, I second (or should I say third) the opinion that less is more. I actually count 23 x 2012-13 releases thus far with 3 more announced……each with the “double rookie class”. The market is saturated. I surely hope there aren’t autos of Quincy Acy or Robert Sacre, etc in Immaculate and/or Flawless.

I also want to revoice my opinion about putting “stuff” in front of the cut-out window of a jersey swatch/patch. While the NBA logoman silhouette looks nice before a super-duper, perfectly-centered patch like the mock-up, more often than not, the patch is hidden in part by the die-cutting or the silhouette. It’s often tough to really be able to see and appreciate the patch with little cut-out letters or shadows hiding it.

I’m guessing the silhouette is to detract patch fakers? But agreed, it detracts from the view of the card.

I know what you mean about the sets bumping up against each other but that happens in other sports/manufacturers as well. I think there were just too many sets overall this “season”

very sweet looking…look forward to seeing more

I’m a fan of Prestige Football, hence I’m hopeful that Prestige Hoops will impress also. The Griffin jersey patch is off the chain, so I’m optimistic.
It’s really nice to see not only a ’13-’14 product, but also one with an MSRP that doesn’t eclipse 4 digits.

I will wait for this, prestige is one of those boxes I can afford ( Is it same price range as last year??? )

I was hoping to see a return to more on-card autographs from Prestige (i.e. 2009-10 and 2010-11) and I’m not a fan of seeing spokesman (Kevin Durant) autos on stickers. The NBA Materials card is pretty cool though.

Can these “images” be a little more exciting on the final product. I’m kind of tired of seeing cards of Kobe just dribbling and looking. He did have some nice dunks last year, like the one all over the Nets. It’d be nice if we could get some of those shots on his base cards.

So far so good, it should be an interesting year in the NBA both on the court and in the hobby. Thanks Tracy!

Always liked the Prestige line of releases. Great to see a card of 76ers RC Carter-Williams as well.
