Panini America’s New Ink: Elite Basketball Inscriptions, National Treasures Baseball

January 16, 2013

Panini America January 16 New Autograph Arrivals Main

You want to see something really cool? Well, good . . . because I have something really cool to show you. I just got back to my desk after spending the last 15 or 20 blissful minutes in the acquisitions vault perusing the newest on-card autograph arrivals that have hit Panini America HQ this week.

I have seen — more like “seen through” — the not-so-distant future of basketball collecting thanks to the stunning Rookie Inscriptions on-acetate autographs coming to 2012-13 Elite Basketball; and I’ve seen seemingly 50 new shades of brilliant coming to 2012 National Treasures Baseball.

As you’ll soon see, basketball’s Rookie Inscriptions autographs have boldly taken the baton from their wildly popular football brethren. The results so far seem fantastic: Bold, crisp autographs, a design to accentuate it and compelling photography. As for National Treasures Baseball, we’ve shown you a few advance glimpses already, but these new gems — including Nolan Ryan oversized prime-memorabilia cards and a decked-out Justin Upton 1/1 — shed additional light on this highly anticipated release.

Check out the revealing gallery below (which includes in-demand basketball rookies such as Anthony Davis, Austin Rivers, Bradley Beal and more) and stay tuned to The Knight’s Lance for additional updates.

I wish that football had patches like in other sports! Then maybe the football products would have sick RPAs like those above!

    Liking the hard-signed inscriptions autos.

Also liking how the memorabilia colors really pop out from the B&W pix and simple front of the card designs!!

When does national treasures come out?

Both sets look amazing. I think the Inscriptions would look better if they were white instead of clear, but they look good regardless. National Treasures should be great, and I can’t wait to see some opened. That Liam Hendriks would look great in my collection. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on those.

The National Treasures Ryan has the look of the Silhouette cards from hockey, football and basketball. In all but the NBA versions, the player’s silhouette is directly in front of the patch so you’re viewing the patch on either side of the player’s shadow. With the Ryan, the patch window is large enough and the patch is nice enough so it looks pretty good. However, in the Preferred versions, the patch window is not as large and often the patches aren’t as nice…. and the shadow tends to block the view of the patch. In the NBA version, the shadow is off to the side and the full patch window is viewable. In my opinion, the NBA version is the best.

Hey Tracy, or anyone else, I wasn’t really sure where to put this, so I figured I’d just comment on the newest blog post, but I had an idea for a possible insert set in perhaps next years football, at least one of the products anyway. Since Candestick will be in its closing season next year, I thought it would be cool if you guys could do a mem/auto set of 49er greats and include mem from the stadium, seats, goal post, whatever else to commemorate the Stadium and keep it alive, in the form of cards. I suppose for you to acquire that kind of stuff it would have to have been torn down already, but, just a thought 🙂

Good stuff, man. Our brands have included stadium seats and Astroturf in the “long-ago” past, but I don’t think we’ve ever themed it around a specific team. And you’re right: The stadium would have to be torn down before we could do much. But I’ll certainly share this with our football folks.

The Niners would be a great team to center such a set around.

Oh my dear lord, those National Treasures singles are filthy…absurd…magnificent …please insert your own adjective.
What’s the projected MSRP, Tracy? The NT Football product is well outside my price range, so I’m hoping that the baseball product will be a little bit closer to 200/250 as opposed to $400 and up.
Brilliant design, it’s fantastic to see Panini continue to push the boundaries of design and memorabilia incorporation. I’m still waiting for an actual player to be encased in a card, seeded as the case hit, perhaps 🙂

I was waiting for the design of the elite rc auto to show up and it indeed was the one I was hoping for! The elite football rc acetate were so nice, I had hope the basketball one had the same one too! I can’t wait to get in some of those when it comes out! yeyeye
