Panini Peek: 2013-14 Elite Basketball

November 30, 2013

2013-14 Elite Basketball Main

In late January, just a few weeks before things start heating up during 2014 NBA All-Star Weekend in New Orleans, one of the game’s most venerable all-stars, 2013-14 Elite Basketball, returns to the court packing many of the staples that have made it such a venerable favorite through the years while also delivering some new twists.

Each hobby box of 2013-14 Elite Basketball (20 packs per box, five cards per pack) will include two autographs, two memorabilia cards, two numbered Rookie Cards and two numbered Legends. In addition, this year’s installment features the triumphant return of Passing the Torch Signatures (one of the industry’s favorite dual-signed inserts) and six different inserts with prime parallels numbered to 25 or less (including Rookie Essentials, Throwback Threads and Back to the Future).

Other product highlights include . . .

  • Gold and Black parallels numbered to 25 and 1, respectively, in Elite Status, Elite Series
  • and the all-new Face 2 Face and Franchise Future inserts.
  • Look for autographs from theĀ 2013 NBA Rookie Class in the New Breed subset that includes both base and prime-memorabilia versions.
  • The return of the brand’s wildly popular Status die-cut parallels, including Black 1/1s.

We’ll have much more to share on 2013-14 Elite Basketball in the coming weeks right here on The Knight’s Lance. But for now, take at least some time on this last day of November to enjoy this first extended sneak peek:

Please do me a favour this Year only 3-5 very Good products and 5-7 Good products but Not so Many ugly products like marquee. In the 2012-2013 Season there was too much products for a Player Collector is this the Death.

I completely agree and I think many other collectors do agree. Panini will not listen, because they are going to make the most money from releasing the MOST the can each season.

It’s a little sad because quality is detracted from each product because they are rushing to finish it for the next product. You can tell in 2011-2012 had a very limited amount of releases, due to lockout, and all the products were awesome.

Appreciate your perspective, Sean. But we do listen and we do care.

Marquee was actually one of my favorite products from last season. Very underrated in my opinion.

Im with you Ced, sticker autos don NOT bother me. Of course everybody loves OnCard autos more, including myself but i know sticker autos are easier and faster to accuire from the players and if that means less redemptions, then that should make everybody happy especially Panini. Elite looks great as always! To answer PinoyMamba’s question about wheres the Glass cards, the Glass cards were in the ELITE SERIES Basketball Product not Elite Basketball. Keep up the great work Panini!!

Last years Elite Hobby was really, really weak in the secondary market. This season looks a little better so far…

Will this product be in a Retail version, Tracy?

Elite is a great program, I really enjoyed cracking some football this year so hoops collectors should have similar fun with it as well. Thanks Tracy!

Elite Basketball might be a tough sell due to price and the sheer number of Hoops products Panini releases over a given year.
I like the inclusion of auto mem’ cards, particularly the prime versions. The PTT Autos are always in high demand and for good reason. The sticker ‘graphs don’t bother me bc I’d rather a sticker than no auto at all. Panini is doing the responsible thing by having players sign sheets of stickers as opposed to distributing the dreaded “Redemptions.” So which would you prefer? A nice auto patch, albeit on sticker, or a redemption that may very well never be fulfilled due to the players’ failure to return his cards?

Elite is always one of my favorite card sets!! Love the die cuts, colors, etc etc etc.

I dont mind sticker autos but it really irks me when the autograph is cut off by the edge of the sticker.
If it MUST be sticker autos how about a bit more quality control?
