Teaser Gallery: Panini America Breaks Two Early Boxes of 2013-14 Spectra Basketball

July 15, 2014

Panini America 2013-14 Spectra Basketball Teaser Gallery (1)

It probably goes without saying that things are moving at a breakneck pace around Panini America HQ these days. A slew of products are in various stages of development, production and release; meanwhile there’s an all-hands-on-deck approach to two huge events looming in the next few weeks: The National Sports Collectors Convention and the NBA Rookie Photo Shoot.

We’ll have more on both of those marquee events — as well as plenty of previews on upcoming releases such as 2014 Prestige Football and 2013-14 Preferred Basketball — right here on The Knight’s Lance in the coming days. But today, we’re focused on a quite limited product that will arrive in hobby shops tomorrow: 2013-14 Spectra Basketball.

How limited is the debut edition of Spectra Basketball? That’s a rhetorical question, but suffice it to say that we could get our hands on just two boxes of it for the purposes of this Teaser Gallery. Although each box of 2013-14 Spectra Basketball promises to include eight cards, it actually delivers 12, including five autograph memorabilia cards and two memorabilia cards. A poignant mix of vibrant colors, striking designs and Optichrome technology promise to make Spectra Basketball one of the most memorable releases of the season.

You can find out for yourself beginning tomorrow. Until then, though, whet your appetite with this Teaser Gallery that takes you card-by-card through two quick boxes.

Could have used this OR Prizm OR Select not all 3. Also, this is JULY: time to really focus on 2014 NFL or the 14/15 NBA stuff…just my opinion.

Looks really, really good. Nice 1/1 pull on that Thad Young! Do I smell a giveaway item?

Looks nice but way too much duplication in products right now and the price point is rough.

Doesn’t look anywhere near 270.00 value here. The parallels are going to be fairly undesired considering there are so many parallels and so few packs. Part of what makes parallels valuable is the rarity in them bring pulled. I appreciate on card autos, but the signing space is almost identical to the size of a sticker, and with the silver background it makes the on card autos look like they have a sticker.

I love the look of Spectra and always appreciate a focus on on-card autos. Spectra football was one of my favorite sets last year and I hope it’s a brand that you keep around for a long time. However, I will agree that the price point is pretty rough. I really liked the pack configuration of Spectra Football (1 auto, 1 mem per pack; 6 packs per box as I recall) and I hope that you go back to a similar configuration for Spectra going forward. Keep up the great work and thanks for allowing your fans/customers to voice their opinions and welcome their feedback.

Too many “High End” sets. Not sure this one adds any value. Maybe something that is a retail exclusive?

I immediately feel in “Young” “Love” with that second box and didn’t feel “(L)illard at all with what was pulled and represented! Looks real nice with sweet mem/autos!

TRACY, I REALLY LIKE THIS PRODUCT. QUESTION? WHY ONLY A FEW GURRENT PLAYER AUTOS AND NOT REALLY ANY QUALITY ONES EXCEPT LOVE, CURRY, KOBE AND DURANT. WHERE YOU TRYING TO MAKE THIS MAINLY A RETIRED PLAYER AUTO SET AND ROOKIES? I LOVE THE IDEA. THE ON CARD AUTOS OF HOFERS IS GREAT. AND THE ADDITION OF GUYS WE DON’T SEE MUCH LIKE FAT LEVER, MARK PRICE AND CUMMINGS. I THINK THE $250 IS ABOUT RIGHT FROM WHAT I HAVE SEEN. YOU GET ONE GOOD HIT AUTO, 2 RETIRED AUTOS, 2 ROOKIE AUTOS. THEN THE CRAZY SHORT PRINT OF GOOD PLAYERS. MY ONLY CONCERN IS TIMING. PREFERRED NEXT WEEK, THEN TREASURES, IMMACULATE AND FLAWLESS. IN A TIGHT WINDOW.
    THANKS,

So colorful, so much variety, so much value. Spectra looks to be a hit yet again. Thanks Tracy!
