January 2, 2013

Panini America 2012-13 Timeless Treasures Basketball QC (64)

Following one season away, basketball’s perfect tin is on the verge or a major comeback. On Friday, Panini America officials will release 2012-13 Timeless Treasures Basketball, a re-engineered version of the collecting classic packing some new-and-improved bells and whistles within its trademark tin boxes.

Each five-card tin delivers three autograph or memorabilia cards, with radically redesigned autographed Rookie Cards and the evolution of revolution memorabilia cards randomly inserted among them. Clearly, this a a bold, new Timeless Treasures for a bold, new season.

The Panini America NBA Product Development team made time around the holidays to finalize the Quality Control process for 2012-13 Timeless Treasures Basketball and we’ve provided a stunning array of images from that labor of love in the must-see gallery below.

We hope you enjoy this extended first look at live cards from the product. Oh, and stay tuned to The Knight’s Lance in the coming days for a special episode of Panini Unwrapped. But until then, feast your eyes on these beauties . . .

Nice looking revamp Tracy!! I particularly like that innovative “flip” the jersey on the Faried/Love card to see both jersey pieces! I also like the legends as always! I am a life long Sixers fan and will be seeking the Dr. J material card. Thanks for the sneak peek!! Have a great day Tracy!

Those Glass Rookies and the Die-Cut cards are my favorite so far. Also, I love that you keep putting Kemp into the product, hes one of my all time favorite players.

Come on guys, you know I was the first to praise Prizm in all its glory and i’m excited to see Select too, but at $100 for 5 cards, all these autos HAVE to be on card. It’s totally uncool to pay that kind fo money for sticker autos, at least for the rookies! Instead of sending them a sheet with X amount of stickers, send them a package with X amount fo cards! Just my thoughts:) Keepin it real in 2013.

It seems that these “Legends” autos are taking over each Panini product. With all due respect to Kevin Willis, he was a serviceable journeyman, but not even an All-Star. Ditto Rex Chapman. Who would be excited to pull their (sticker) autographs out of a $100 pack?
Autos should be from current players and a select few real legends from back in the day.

Not bad, any update on the checklist?

Gotta luv that Manute Bol jersey card. As a 76ers fan, I’m always interested in 76ers past players.

Overall, cards look good once again. I like the dual flip jersey card!

Honestly im not being a downer and always praise panini but a little upset there are no on ball leather or on card rc autos like usually
this has always been my fav product and i am a bit disappointed
i always like the logomen and tags and short numbered 1/1 logos
like the aidas stuff tags and laundry stuff..
Out of all the products so far only on card autos r from threads… a little discouraging…

Packaging looks awesome, cards look great definitely one of the best products manufactured by panini.cant wait to open some boxes and get the all star gus and die cut materials. Great job Guys! We certainly love this product.

The cards are great but not exactly top quality when Timeless Treasures comes to mind. The home/away jerseys + the warmups are a great touch but the autographs are cliche, hand signed is always better, but the big sticker autos add a little more depth. The die cuts are pretty cool- I just wish Panini products would insert more die cuts in their retail selections a little more. Thanks again for the preview-

Last year, there was a shortage of NBA products due to the lockout and consequently no Rookie Cards . This year, there is a glut of products (seemingly to make up for lost opportunity and lost revenue) and consequently an overabundance of RCs. While Panini refers to this as the “huge historic double rookie class”, I have found it tougher than usual to pull a decent RC auto from this diluted pool. With as many as 100 RCs per product, it’s a tough pull across the board. Why 50 RCs per season?

Also, I agree with Chris B. above……. many of the Legends have virtually no hobby interest or value. It’s probably a no-win situation for Panini but with prices rising, collectors are hoping for at least some feeling of value……

Tracy, could you please check if Rasheed Wallace is in the Checklist? Also if there are any Rodney Stuckey or Bob Lanier Cards?

BTW: The Die Cuts look really nice!

cards look nice but the checklist might be a downer as it includes a LOT of legends that might not have re-selling value..

P.S. > it would be better if you guys have the on-card glass rookie autos instead of those stickers.

I can imagine it is very hard for Panini to get all these players to sign on card but I would have to guess most hobbyists would prefer a few less players and more signed on card stuff. This seems to be the consensus, Tracy, you’ve been too quiet, thoughts:)?

Are next year’s Panini products going to be better once there is just one rookie class?

i.e. Will prime patches return with the same frequency that they did in 09-10 and 10-11 products? Will RC autos be on-card? Will there be less retired players and more good active veterans?

The products this year have been on a serious downward spiral… this product doesn’t even touch either of the past 2 years releases of Timeless Treasures. Is this just temporary because of the double rookie class or is this how all products are going to be from now on?
