The Panini America Quality Control Gallery: 2013-14 NBA Hoops Basketball (106 Pics)

October 17, 2013

Panini America 2013-14 NBA Hoops Basketball QC (1)

Captivating action photography. A strikingly crisp, white-bordered design. The first NBA Rookie Cards of the 2013-14 season. The first rookie autographs of the new season. Once-in-a-blue-moon chase hits. Border-color variations. Card-back variations. Artist’s Proofs. A robust variety of both image- and design-based inserts. Look, if I have to sit here and rattle off everything that makes 2013-14 NBA Hoops Basketball the quintessential way to start a new season, I’ll be here until next Wednesday when the product releases.

So instead, I’ll let the following Quality Control Gallery speak for itself. Indeed, with so much buzz about Panini America’s high-end end to the 2012-13 NBA collecting season (with Flawless due out next Friday and Immaculate coming a few weeks after that), many collectors may have overlooked the fact that the first product of the 2013-14 season has already shipped — and it will make an impact.

2013-14 NBA Hoops Basketball Hobby Jumbos absolutely will be the biggest NBA Hoops yet. Judging by the content I’ve seen, it’ll also be the best — for all the reasons I mentioned above and for many more that I didn’t. Coast to coast from the first card to the last, 2013-14 NBA Hoops Basketball delivers the essence of the NBA, on base cards, on parallels, on inserts.

Each Hobby Jumbo box includes a staggering 500 cards (50 cards per pack, 10 packs per box), with two autographs and one memorabilia card guaranteed. Collectors will also find a plethora of insert and parallels in each box. And if you’re really lucky, you’ll find one of the rare, one-per-case Kobe’s All-Rookie Team chase cards or the tough Champions tribute to the Miami Heat.

You can peek a little bit of everything 2013-14 NBA Hoops Basketball has to offer in the massive gallery that follows. And stay tuned to The Knight’s Lance in the coming days for additional coverage.

i wish you would take these Action Photos more in other Products. These look nice.
Will the regular Artist Proofs be numbered too?
What about the Rookie Autographs, are those numbered?

And a Checklist would be nice if possible.

    thanks for the preview!

    • October 17, 2013 3:54 pm

Thanks for the feedback. The regular Artist’s Proofs and Rookie Autographs are not numbered. Will try to have the checklist posted as soon as I can.

        thank you.
One thing i would love to see in Hoops would be Printing Plates. For me these belong into cheaper Products to make it more attractive.Iam not a big Fan of Printing Plates in High End Products.

I agree. The in game action shots have been missing from basketball cards.

Refreshing to see them back again šŸ™‚

agree with the printing plates… you insert these in one per case and should be good…by the way, can you publish the checklist for immaculate ? for sure you have a checklist of this already..as the product should be out already based on the original original schedule šŸ˜€

Nice looking set so far, I like the design on the Dreams insert set the best. Thanks Tracy!

Do you have Xavier Henry in a lakers uniform?

    • October 17, 2013 4:41 pm

Greg, I regret to inform you that Henry appears on only one card in this set: The autographs insert.

      • October 17, 2013 5:42 pm

So you do have the checklist on hand then -:D

  4. October 17, 2013 4:32 pm

Already asked, but would be nice to see a checklist šŸ™‚

One thing I really like about this years Hoops is the distinction between the Artists Proofs and the regular base cards. In prior years of Hoops there wasn’t much noticeable difference. This year you can definitely spot the difference!

Also like the Ersan auto of course and the “shadow” card of Ersan on the MKG base card šŸ™‚

I think the picture of the Ersan auto was put in there just for you!

Nice! These cards actually looks much better than i expected!
Since usually Hoops has the best action photos, i must ask, do you have picture about the famous DeAndre Jordan vs. Brandon Knight incident on any of the cards(i guess that would be a DeAndre Jordan card)? šŸ™‚

    • October 17, 2013 5:25 pm

He’s dunking on his base card, but it’s not THE dunk. Trying to see if we may have used that anywhere else in the set.

    Hey Tracy,

    Two quick questions….

Are Noel and MCW the only 76ers rookies with autographs?

Does Seth Curry have a card in this set?

  8. October 17, 2013 8:28 pm

    Looks awesome!

It took a couple of years…but Panini is finally getting it! Collectors want action shots on our cards!
Just one little recommendation…zoom out on a couple of the shots. The Damian Lillard base would have looked even better if we could see his whole body in the frame. Same with Alexy Shved. We want to see air time and a sense of the entire play, not just close-ups. Nice job though on the Leonard and LeBron!

and what is the difference between the gold bordered cards and white bordered artist proofs like in the Chris Bosh 2 card photo

    • October 17, 2013 9:58 pm

Gold-bordered parallels are 3-5 per Jumbo. Artist’s Proof parallels are tougher.

Ok, that’s a different/nice little twist to the always fun to break low end product. Thanks for the reply, Tracy.

Tracy- When is Panini going to do League Leaders cards? They were very popular with Topps products years ago.

Now this is more like it! Honestly I have been hoping you put out more cards of the great unknowns in the hobby…that kravtsov is on my radar…loving the seamless continuity of the autos and of course for old school collectors like me, it is nice to see the stars of the 80s and 90s putting some ink…though i wish they’d be on-card…overall, am looking forward to lying my hands on these babies…ah, just a thought, can you guys get blue edwards to sign anything? man, that former jazz guy is hard to come by…btw, has Burke signed any? would like to get some of his hancocks for my jazz pc

Simple, clean look. Lots of nice insert card designs. Autos and GU’s. Nice.

Does Kelly Olynyk have any auto?

  19. October 18, 2013 8:59 am

Shame about the draft class, means some people won’t bother to get any 2013-14 product.

    • October 18, 2013 9:05 am

That’s what a lot of people were saying about this current NFL Draft Class, too. But once these guys get on the field (or court, in this case), some always shine and excite collectors. I think that will happen once the season starts.

Def try and get autos of Olynyk, Bennett, Oladipo, Mclemore, McCollum, Zeller, Carter-Williams, Noel…all going to stand out this year

  21. October 18, 2013 4:11 pm

I absolutely love this product! High quality inexpensive cards of the majority of NBA players with cool designs for what I love to do–get in person autographs of NBA players–for my growing autograph collection–pushing 9,000! Thanks Panini for a great start to the 2013-14 NBA season. Now I just got to win a box to kick start the season–you will be having a contest right?

if the release date is this Wednesday(October 23rd) why isn’t there a checklist out already to see?

    Tracy,is there a checklist already?

again is there a checklist? the cards look great but it would even better if there was checklist posted already – considering less than 24 hrs and the cards are released
