Panini America Offers a Detailed First Look at 2015-16 Gold Standard Basketball
It’s fitting, really, that Panini America’s Gold Standard brand has indeed become the gold standard for many collectors. With it’s gilded greatness and golden aura, it’s the product by which many collectors measure all other products. Certainly that’s been the case during the first five years of Gold Standard’s hoops existence. Judging by what Panini America product developers have in store for the upcoming sixth installment, that will remain the case well into the future.
Due out in late December, 2015-16 Gold Standard Basketball will feature subtle enhancements to brand stalwarts (like new 1/1 Jumbo Tag versions of the product’s popular Rookie Jersey Autographs) and larger tweaks such as all-prime memorabilia cards. For additional details, keep reading.
Each seven-card box of 2015-16 Gold Standard Basketball includes one Rookie Jersey Autograph, two additional autograph or memorabilia cards, three base cards and one parallel. Other highlights include . . .
- Strike gold again with the return of the AU autograph insert. All cards are sequentially numbered to a print run of 79, the atomic number of gold.
- All memorabilia inserts are prime. Look for rich patch content in Newly Minted Memorabilia, Golden Pairs/Trios/Quads, White Gold Threads and Golden Jumbo Threads.
- Look for the ultra-rare Solid Gold set featuring 1/1 cards made of real gold.
- Find the updated Bullion Brand Logo Tag insert; all Bullion Brand cards are 1/1s.
- The popular Ring Bearers autograph insert returns to honor the NBA’s greatest champions.
- Chase the epic Rookie Jersey Autographs RC subset numbered to 199 or less and including single, double, triple and jumbo patch versions.

the Bullion Brand Tags from previous Years were the best looking Cards in Gold Standard.Why are they so small this Year? Really sad too see this.
BTW: The Durant looks nearly the same as in last year!

any chance for gold standard football coming back seeing as ur the only licensed football card maker in 2016 which i am so glad because panini rules!
On one hand, it’s disappointing to see these drop to 7 cards per box (I believe they were always 10 or 11 before) – especially since the preorder pricing I’ve seen indicates that the product hasn’t actually gotten any cheap.
On the other hand, I really like the fresh design. I’ve always thought Gold Standard had a nice design (one of the few unique looking products Panini makes) but a lot of the unique nature of the product has been wasted based on the fact that the GS looks almost exactly the same every single year.
I get the whole “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” concept, but at the same time you need to do SOMETHING new from time to time. I wanted to buy a box of GS recently for example, and I was looking at every year from 10/11 to 14/15 and I just couldn’t decide which to go for because they all looked so darn similar. In the end this factor put me off and I ended up going with something else entirely.
This year looks fresh though – it has just enough of the classic DNA in there to make it feel like a Gold Standard product, but it’s been changed enough to make it feel like a new product (rather than just a ‘series 2’ update).
I’ll likely grab a box or two of this on release to check it out!
Can I get an update on possible release date please? Originally it was 30th December but obviously been postponed.
