Panini America Readying International-Only 2014-15 Gala Basketball (Must-See Gallery)

When it comes to international summer blockbusters, last week’s release of Jurassic World will be hard to beat at the box office with an estimated global take of more than $524 million during its record-shattering opening weekend. But if you’re talking about international collecting blockbusters, well, Panini America’s upcoming 2014-15 Gala Basketball just might make trading-card history.

Panini America’s first high-end NBA release made exclusively for international distribution, 2014-15 Gala Basketball is a big-budget thriller packed with big-screen qualities, marquee-ready names, great special effects and an out-of-this-country scarcity that will have domestic collectors scrambling to get so much as a glimpse.

Due to arrive only in international locations later this summer, each five-card box of 2014-15 Gala Basketball will deliver three on-card autographs, one memorabilia card and one base card — and every card in the set is numbered to 99 or less. Other highlights of the product include . . .

  • Rising stars take center stage on Rookie Cards sequentially numbered to just eight.
  • Gala features five on-card autograph sets and three memorabilia inserts, all featuring designs fit for the big screen.
  • Find the NBA’s headliners and up-and-coming stars in Cinematic Signatures and Cinematic Rookie Signatures, two innovative new sets showcasing on-card signatures of the game’s best and brightest with a wide-angle action shot printed on a holographic/acetate combo card.
  • Panini America’s star-studded stable of exclusive athletes headlines Gala’s Award Winning Autographs, Silver Screen Signatures and Starring Role Signatures inserts; every autograph in Gala is numbered to 60 or less.
  • A 100-card base set featuring 83 veterans (numbered to 99) and 17 rookies (numbered to eight).

We’ll have plenty more to preview on 2014-15 Gala Basketball in the coming days right here on The Knight’s Lance. But for now, consider the following gallery — including world-premiere reveals of the first returned autographs — your official Gala trailer. Enjoy.

Can these be found in Japan? It’ll give me something special to look for when I go there in a month.

Great looking set, interesting decision on how to distribute it. It’ll have an impact on the secondary market for sure. Thanks Tracy!

Maybe the best set you’ve done all year. Love the Cinematic Signatures. I can’t wait to get some of…. oh yeah.
