Panini Peek: 2010-11 Playoff Contenders Patches Basketball

November 6, 2010

The product formerly known as Playoff Contenders Basketball will boast a new name and a new-look Rookie Card when 2010-11 Playoff Contenders Patches Basketball releases in early February.

Each of the product’s trademark Rookie Ticket Autographs will receive a memorabilia upgrade this season in the form of a manufactured prime patch (hence the enhanced product name) and those Rookie Ticket Patch Autograph RCs will constitute three of the four autographs seeded in each box.

2010-11 Playoff Contenders Patches will carry a $6 SRP (five cards per pack, 20 packs per box, 12 boxes per case) and each case break will yield one or more autographs from a list that includes exclusive Panini spokesmen Kobe Bryant and John Wall, Shaquille O’Neal, dual-signed Building Blocks Black Autographs numbered to 10 or less and Place in History Black Autographs also numbered to 10 or less.

Other product highlights include:

  • Of the four autographs per box, at least one will be of a 2010 Lottery Pick
  • 200 Championship Ticket 1/1s
  • Classic Tickets Prime Material Autographs numbered to 10 or less
  • Notable inserts Rookie of the Year Contenders Autographs and Place in History Autographs recalling such odd-seeming draft-day pairings as Bryant and the Charlotte Hornets, Dirk Nowitzki and the Milwaukee Bucks and Pau Gasol and the Atlanta Hawks, to name three
  • In addition to autographs from Bryant, Wall and O’Neal, the Contenders Patches’ signing roster also includes Blake Griffin, Amar’e Stoudemire, Derrick Rose, Tyreke Evans, Carmelo Anthony, Evan Turner, Wesley Johnson and Brandon Jennings

Haven’t been a fan of Contenders in the past, but I do like 4 auto’s per box (including one lottery pick auto), the Place in History set and Season Ticket cards.

Question: Shouldn’t the Lottery Picks be from the 2010 Draft and not 2011?

Are the Rookie ticket autos on-card like they were last year? Or is that sticker-sized spot there for another awful sticker?

And will there be different versions of each player’s Rookie Ticket card with different manufacturered patches (team logo, NBA logo, Draft logo, etc…)?

So, any answers about the on-card or sticker auto question for this product?

It’s not a sticker. It’s a signed piece of white paper/plastic that is actually embedded in the card. It looks really cool. It’s the same makeup we’re using for Plates & Patches Football. As soon as I have an image, I’ll post it. But I think collectors will really dig it.

Hey Tracy, quick queestion, the product is called Contenders PATCHES, from what I remember of last seasons there werent any patches. Do you have any odds on the authentic patches and any preview picks of the patches? Or are they all manufactured patches?

    thanks

Is there a list of how many cards there are of each player? Like the Football SP list? Are any of the variations SP?
