Panini Peek: 2010-11 NBA Season Update

May 2, 2011

Panini America officials unveiled late Monday afternoon preliminary information regarding the July 10 release of 2010-11 NBA Season Update, the affordable and highly anticipated follow-up to last season’s debut release of a product that impressively wraps up the season that was in the NBA.

This year’s version boasts a $2.99 pack SRP and will deliver one autograph, three memorabilia cards and 14 additional insert cards per box.

“Last year’s NBA Season Update was a solid building block that we would like to expand upon this season,” says Aik Tongtharadol, NBA Brand Manager for Panini America. “The Rookie Challenge, Rookie Duals/Triples and updated Prestige and Rookies & Stars cards will return.

“Lakers Legacy and Christmas Cards will be swapped out this year with the Throwback Threads, All Stars and Green Week inserts taking their place.  The latter two will feature materials that can be linked back to specific games — 2010 and 2011 All-Star Games and 2009-11 Green Weeks, respectively.”

Other highlights from 2010-11 NBA Season Update include:

  • More than 1,000 on-card autographs
  • Dual (numbered to 99) and Triple (numbered to 49) Rookie Autographs
  • Rookie Challenge Materials featuring pieces of memorabilia worn in the All-Star Weekend Rookie Challenge Game (numbered to 799 or less)
  • Green Week, featuring swatches of jerseys worn during past Green Week games

“I’m always excited to give deserving players their due,” Tongtharadol notes. “Unfortunately, we can’t invite every rookie to the NBA Photo Shoot, but this set lets us feature some of the players that have emerged during the season, such as a Gary Neal or Landry Fields on an updated Prestige RC or Rookies and Stars Signed Patch RC, respectively.”

Panini this product looks awesome! And $3 SRP too, that’s great! And THANK GOD you guys got rid of the Christmas cards I’m sorry but those were terrible. I love the new rookie triples design, last years was hard to beat. Really well done

Looks good! Is there a preliminary checklist for this? Or do you at least know how many cards are in the base set?? I’m hoping my guys Ersan Ilyasova and Luc Mbah a Moute are in this! 🙂

I hope you have the “real” Griffin car dunk on a card in the set. Don’t mind the Christmas theme and like any time where you know where the jersey was used.

Kudos for listing it as one auto and three memorabilia instead of “Four hits with at least one auto.” Hopefully everything is going to be promoted like that going forward. Looks good.

That triple auto has the top three vote getters for 2010-11 NBA Rookie of the Year. Sweet! Also can’t wait for Gary Neal’s card because very few have been made of him.

I would like to see a card with that griffin dunking picture on it… I love the style of making the background black and white, I think that should be a set with no names or anything but the photo on the front and on card autos in silver sharpie… cardgasm. Also with this, I think you should make redemptions for autographed posters of that picture. just my 2c

Are the rookie challenge pieces from a warmup or jersey worn during the all star weekend?
