NBA’s Sharpest Shooters Shine in 2011-12 Past & Present Basketball’s “Raining 3s”

April 29, 2012

Yesterday, in honor of the 2012 NBA Playoffs tipping off, we brought you an exclusive sneak peek of the scorching Fireworks insert coming in 2011-12 Past & Present Basketball. Today, we add some much-needed rain to the preview parade with a look at Past & Present’s Raining 3s insert.

Like Fireworks, Raining 3s places a premium on wow-factor printing technology, in this case a high-gloss, spot-UV treatment that brings tangible dimensions to every drop of water on every card. It’s something that has to be felt to be truly appreciated — not that we won’t try to wet, er, whet, your appetite with the following 20-card tease.

NBA superstars from today and yesterday come together as you’ve never seen them in this tribute to the game’s greatest long-range shooters.

In the coming days, we’ll deliver more previews of 2011-12 Past & Present Basketball, including an advance look at some of the set’s short-printed base-card variations.

Enjoy.

Exhibits A. & B. for the dude who blasted Panini for failing to pour time, energy and creativity into the development of envelope-pushing Inserts. On top of that, if memory serves? He called Hackler “precious!”
Leaving Tracy “The National Treasure” Hackler out of the discourse for a moment, these insert lines are totally sweet. Nice job! Thanks for the images, “precious.”

Appreciate that, Jamey. I think the only person who called me precious prior to that was my mom. Glad you like the new inserts. I’ll pass along your comments to our product development folks. And for the record, I pass along ALL comments to our PD folks — good or bad.

      That is all.

Have a great Sunday, Jamey and everyone on The Knight’s Lance.

Nice set but you should’ve included Steve Novak, Ryan Anderson and Kevin Love!

    These inserts look awesome.
I really like that every card seems to be designed seperatly rather than just switching the image of the player.
The only thing I would like to see on such an insert set is a slightly different player list.
I think star players like Kobe or Durant could be in every “stats related” insert set (because of dunks, 3s, defense, etc.). So I wish in an insert set for three pointers there would be more three point “specialists”.
But you certainly did that with the old school guys. I love those.
    I miss Reggie Miller though.
All in all a great insert set. I love the design and the extra effort.

also, why do Lin and Melo’s pants look different than their jerseys?

Awesome inserts! like I had posted before…Panini is the only company that does nice looking inserts. Probably why you guys are number one in every category and have every license out there. With nice looking cards, great customer service, and the way you treat your fans..especially you Tracy…its obvious why we keep coming back for more.

The gallery on the Knights Lance rocks again! Came on this Sunday afternoon looking for something that is stunning and found it right here!

how do you guys insert such a specific ratio of cards per box is there a thing at the factory that sorts them out or what

    • April 29, 2012 7:07 pm

Yes, sir. There are feeder that are pre-programmed to drop cards into packs at the given ratios right there on the production line.

Can you give us an idea of the pricing of the 2011-12 Past & Present hobby boxes.

It’s so 90s but with a twist that makes it feel like today. It’s hard to describe, but I love it. I really want to see what these look like in hand with the printing technology you mentioned. They look awesome.

So is this going to be a foil based surface on the cards, kind of like the 90s inserts?

    • April 30, 2012 11:09 am

From Assistant NBA Brand Manager Keith Hower: “No, it will not be foil. The finish is aqueous soft touch. No gloss other than the raised spot UV.”

  12. April 29, 2012 11:40 pm

Wow they look great and the way the colors fly and blend into the goblets is just awesome! You would have been in trouble if the 3pt champ was not in there! 😎

No Reggie Miller? Are you kidding me Panini?

Why are half the players in this set retired? Why are half of all the cards you produce of retired players? If I want to pull cards of Chris Mullin and Allen Iverson I will find older wax.

    • May 2, 2012 7:40 am

Six of 20 players is hardly half the set. This insert pays tribute to some of the greatest shooters of all time, from today and yesterday. Melding the best of all generations gives the product depth, broader appeal and a sense of history.
