Video & Gallery: Panini America’s 2012 NBA Rookie Photo Shoot “VNR” (Part 1)

August 23, 2012

Every year in conjunction with the NBA Rookie Photo Shoot, Panini America officials work closely with the future NBA stars in attendance to produce a comprehensive Video News Release (or “VNR” as it’s known in mainstream media circles) chronicling the day’s events. Tuesday’s jam-packed 2012 edition was no different.

Following a day full of filming exclusive interviews, trick shots and even a few funny vocal performances, the Panini America VNR crew kicked it onto overdrive to cut down hours worth of footage into one 28-minute recap including compelling bits and pieces from all 39 rookies. Once the final cut of the VNR was approved by the NBA early Wednesday morning, it was distributed via satellite to any media outlets who wanted to use it.

Since that first satellite feed, Panini America’s 2012 NBA Rookie Photo Shoot VNR already has been picked up by seemingly countless television stations anxious to deliver coverage of their market’s top rookies producing their Panini America NBA trading cards. This year, for the first time ever, we’re also making the VNR available directly to readers of The Knight’s Lance, beginning with Part 1 below.

A vital part the VNR process is to include special card mock-ups previewing examples of what each player’s Rookie Cards will look like. This year, we dropped action photography from Tuesday’s shoot into our base 2012-13 NBA Hoops Basketball design, added a Panini logo for the sake of branding and dropped them in at the beginning of each player’s individual highlight package.

After you’ve watched the must-see video, stick around to checkout the complete VNR card gallery. And be sure to check back tomorrow for Part 2.

Is there going to be a photo shoot for the 2011 rookies?

No. Since we have action photography from the 2011 season, we will not be doing a separate photo shoot with them.

Ok, thanks. Have you had any luck with getting athletes to sign for Sports Cards for Kids?

        Not yet.

Will cards from these photos be included in Panini sets released later this year/early next year? B/c Hoops only includes 20 of the 2012-13 rookies in the base set.

Awesome gallery. Like I said before, I really like the camera angle used. Photography is key to great rookie cards.

Is there a list of rookies from the 2011 season that will be available through the 2011 live draft redemptions?
