Panini Peek: 2012 Crown Royale Football

October 18, 2012

Cue the trumpets, break out the regal robes and prepare to take a seat at your collecting throne of choice: 2012 Crown Royale Football is coming.

Due out in December and set to deliver a collecting experience fit for a king, 2012 Crown Royale Football will be headlined by the return of Rookie Silhouettes Signatures, some of the football hobby’s most uniquely ornate RCs featuring on-card autographs, prime memorabilia pieces and numbering to 349 or less. What’s more, the popular Panini’s Choice autographed pyramid die-cuts make their football debut this season in Gold, Blue, Purple and Green parallel versions.

2012 Crown Royale Football will feature a 150-card base set, 100 Rookies numbered to 399 and the aforementioned 35 Rookie Silhouettes Signatures; each four-pack box will yield one Rookie Silhouettes Signature, one Rookie Autograph, two additional autograph or memorabilia cards, two other RCs, four parallels, one Pivotal Players, one Majestic Motion, one Field Force and one NFL Regime.

Some of the product’s crowning achievements include . . .

  • Panini’s Choice comes to football: The powerful pyramids that created a frenzy in 2012 Preferred Basketball tackle the gridiron for the first time
  • In response to overwhelming collector feedback, the NFL’s greatest players will receive the Silhouettes treatment on Legendary Silhouettes Signatures numbered to 99 or less
  • Spectacular new die-cut designs such as Crowning Glory Materials and Rookie Royalty Materials

We’ll have tons more on 2012 Crown Royale Football right here on The Knight’s Lance in the coming weeks. But for now, enjoy your first extended look at the product:

Looks like another gorgeous product with a very unique look.

    Tracy,
I love the clasic base design of Crown Royale. Will there be a RC in the base design this year? I have so many great memories of collecting this classic design when I was a kid.
Thanks for the early treat guys.

hey loved those panini choice auto’s from the preferred basketball last year although i do not collect basketball.. had one question for you mr Hackler?? are the vet’s in the choice auto’s going to be on-card? in any case they look awsome nice job

    • October 18, 2012 8:28 pm

I THINK they’re going to be sticker autos.

just a quick question Tracy and i’m sure you have answered this question on more than one occasion…my question is why does panini only do sticker auto’s for NFL vets and hall of famer’s?? i thought you guys had a exclusive contract for the canton hall of fame player’s?? is it a finacial reason or the players are unwilling to sign in person?? i noticed although i am not a fan of topps the product 5 star has on-card auto’s from vets…do they have a deal you guys do not or something?? this is a genral question and i am not trying to fuel any fires but am just am curious..

        thanks

      • October 18, 2012 10:48 pm

Fair question, Danilo. And a good one, too. We have focused most of our on-card autograph efforts in football over the last few years on the top rookies coming in, with a few notable exceptions of on-card Hall of Famers and veterans. Having said that, one of the things I’m most excited about this year in our football lineup is the inclusion of on-card autographs of veterans and HOFers in 2012 National Treasures Football. Can’t wait to preview those when they come around.

Secondly, yes, we do have an exclusive agreement with the Pro Football Hall of Fame and we are proud of that. That relationship is extremely beneficial when it comes to securing on-card autographs from each new class of inductees (which we have done and will continue to do), but doesn’t necessarily help us secure additional on-card sigs of long-time Hall of Famers.

Thanks for the questions; hope this information is helpful.

the Cramers choice basketball WAS a hint of things to come!

on-card autos on those would be perfect.

Awesome! This is my favorite football product. I was worried that this product would not be done this year. Glad to see that it is back and glad to see all of the support from other collectors to make sure that it stays in the product line-up. I love the fact that you get one Rookie Silhouette per box!!!

Hey Tracy I was wondering if the Cramers choice autos are gonna be in Crown. I see the Michael Turner one above, are there gonna be alot of players in the Triangle Cramers Choice set? I love that set for Basketball and would love to chase the football version. Great looking Product!!

    • October 21, 2012 12:08 am

Yes, sir. The Panini’s Choice autos will be in there. Haven’t seen a checklist yet to see how big the set is yet, though.

Hey Jonathan… There was a definite elegance to the old Pacific “Cramer’s Choice” cards…I recall pulling a Randy Moss and grinning from ear-to-ear. Rare for a non-auto/mem’ card to elicit that kind of satisfaction.
Panini’s Choice is a re-imagining of the CC insert. The auto’d versions are really sharp.

Nice looking cards. Any word on when they are going to be released? or what the price is gonna be?

Releasing in December. Will check on price point tomorrow when I’m back in the office.

Tracy, Can you help me out here…I’m having a hard time finding a short print list for the crown parallels that were uncut for the hobby version. My friend pulled an Owen Daniels Purple, and I pulled a Crabtree Silver & a Dre Kirkpatrick Gold, and he found out the Daniels’ was SSP /2…but can’t find the website where he got the info, and I’m having a tough time finding it on both google & yahoo search engines…any way you could link me to a reference there?

    • January 15, 2013 2:16 pm

Our very own Carlos Torrez posted the following information on The Knight’s Lance a few weeks back. Hope it helps:

“There are UN die-cut versions NOT seq #ered and limited to the following qtys Silver-5 each, Gold-4 each, Green-3 each, Purple-2 each and Blue-1 each.”
