Eureka: 2012 Draft Class Redemptions from 2011-12 Gold Standard Basketball Arrive!

December 28, 2012

Panini America 2012 Gold Standard DC Redemptions 6

To truly appreciate the heavy-metal majesty that is the 2012 Draft Class Redemptions from 2011-12 Gold Standard Basketball, it helps to hold them in your hands. And in the next few days, patient collectors who’ve been waiting for the chance to do just that will finally be rewarded.

Just this week, the finished cards — weighty, wonderfully designed and hopefully worth the wait — arrived at Panini America HQ and will be on their way to collectors early next week. Here’s hoping the following 12-image preview gallery provides a worthy appetite-whetter until the cards begin arriving.

And stay tuned to The Knight’s Lance for additional updates on the other Draft Class Redemption programs from 2011-12 Past & Present Basketball, 2011-12 Limited Basketball and 2011-12 Gold Standard Basketball.

Now, for the preview . . .

(Viewers beware: No matter how proud I am of my new iPhone 5 camera, its images simply can’t do these cards justice. They look even better in person.)

Wow. They are metal. Then would be signed on. Sweet. Tracy its the same thing on Prizm, the camera really dont do justice, unless you are holding them.

    • December 28, 2012 1:26 pm

Agree 100 percent, Eric. The images give you something of an idea. But you must see one in person to truly appreciate it.

Wait are these the cards from gold standard just not autographed yet?

      • December 28, 2012 1:33 pm

The 2012 Draft Class cards are not signed. The 2011s will be, but on standard paper-stock cards.

So basically Panini made their collectors wait for cards, that arent even autographed? Im a bit boggled here too myself. I have a few redemptions from the Limited 11-12, I hope they come with some ink on them. The metal card look sweet, but they should have ink on them if the buyer has to wait for the card/cards. I mean its only 100-125 per pack, right?

They were never advertised as being auto’ed. They were on the checklist as Golden Futures Metals. The next subset specifically states that they are auto’s: Golden Futures Autographs. With the lock out, Panini’s hands were tied, no set season date therefore no rookie signing day. They did what they could with what they were handed. I know it’s frustrating for us, that’s why we gotta do the research and know what’s coming up.

Not going to lie, this might be the nicest Rookie Cards i’ve seen. Please pass these props to the design team who thought of this.

Tracy, are these cards the golden futures metal redemption cards from the 2011 set?

These cards look awesome, but this may be the most confusing redemption process ever. And see im not the only one confused by this. I had a bunch of these redemptions and didn’t even bother to wait because of the confusion and the long wait times. Will we have the same with hockey if the lockout continues the whole year? Will you double up on rookies? I like the idea of chasing two rookie classes in a product.

So the non autographed are from this year like shown above but if i have like a kemba walker those are autographed??

these are as cool as it gets for a non autoed card… hopefully they fit in toploaders haha

    • December 28, 2012 4:37 pm

Yes, the members of the 2011 NBA Draft class will be signed.

Any idea at all when those will be coming out?

      • December 28, 2012 4:39 pm

These particular cards will be going out starting next week. On the autographed versions, they’ll be going out as soon as we get them back from the players.

I was confused on the 2012 redemptions. At least it seems to be worth the wait. When should we expect the Past & Present update?

    • December 29, 2012 2:01 am

The cards have been printed and delivered to Panini America HQ. The 2012s will start going out in the coming days. The 2011s will be sent as soon as they’re autographed by the players.

    WOW… Truly dissapointed (as usual)
The autograph versions of 2011 draft class redemptions will NOT BE ON METAL? I thought that was the whole point of that redemption program? I even bought a bunch of random players from this set because THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO BE signed on metal not on “paper stock” as stated above.

    REALLY? C;mon

We did get a bunch of information about how this was supposed to happen, but logic dictates these cards be autographed or serial numbered or something. If not, what was the point of having us wait until October to match up our cards with hypothetical players?

The whole process was ridiculous, and I think Tracy knows it, so I give him kudos for going out in front of the collectors for the past year plus with no basketball sets and no explanations. The products this year are doing well, and they have to be, but these redemptions for base cards remind us all of last year’s struggles with buying Panini Basketball cards last year.

      December 31, 2012 3:04 pm

Most of the cards are not even PRODUCED yet, so after that is complete, then another few months for signatures, a few months for processing, a few months for packaging, a few months for “unexpected issues” and then the cards will arrive, likely damaged in 2015
