The Panini America Quality Control Gallery: 2012 Limited Football (74 Must-See Images)

January 10, 2013

Panini America 2012 Limited Football QC (1)

The unassuming, player-less packaging used to house 2012 Limited Football belies the brilliance of the contents inside. In fact, after spending much of today closely scrutinizing the results of the recently completed Quality Control process, I’d venture to say that this year’s edition is one of the nicest-looking Limited releases ever.

Seemingly everything about 2012 Limited Football — the designs, the photography selection, the insert themes, the parallels, the incorporation of game-worn helmets and oversized memorabilia pieces, the checklists, the reintroduction of the fabled Hogg Heaven insert — is at the top of its game.

There’s so much cool in this product — which releases Wednesday — that I can’t really even pinpoint right now what aspect I like the most about it. In my humble opinion, it’s that good. But that’s just me. Take a look for yourself at the 74 images that follow and let us know what you think.

And stay tuned to The Knight’s Lance for additional updates on 2012 Limited Football in the coming days.

This year’s limited looks good. The one thing that really stands out are the lighter backgrounds. In the past, the backgrounds have been rather dark and have held the player image back a bit. However, because this year’s backgrounds are lighter, the player seems to pop out more than usual. Nice job Panini.

Just wondering if there will be a retail component (since there is barely one for Crown Royale, and none for Golden Age). And the retail place I hit marked Golden Age up from its “price” of $3 to almost $4)

Jumbo Payton is sick, is there a more limited prime version?

Of course there are prime versions and they are “SWEETness”.

I have to say, I liked the team names better on last year’s material phenoms- really made the card stand out. The rookie Jumbo patch autos with the number turned out absurdly good though, and i also love the look of Hogg Heaven, Inked and Blue Chips. cant wait!

Why did they bother to make a Matt Cassel card?

  8. January 10, 2013 3:20 pm

Man, these cards look great. Any way I can get the a box with a Walter Payton jumbo jersey? šŸ™‚ The base design and inserts look great, but I have to say that the Inked insert looks the coolest. Are there any rookies autos in the inked set, or just retired players? If so, I’d love to pull an Andrew Luck Inked auto!

Checklist includes current and retired players only! No 2012 rookies.

Love the return of helmets! I’m dying to see this years Limited Material Monikers. I’m slightly worried that there isn’t going to be any. Didn’t see any in there and nothing was labeled monikers for base autos either. Is something replacing it?

There are 50 Material Monikers in 2012.

This years Limited reminds me of 2011 National Treasures with a sparkle. That’s good, more upscale look this year.

  11. January 10, 2013 4:38 pm

    Those Phenom primes are ridiculas.

I am SERIOUSLY impressed by this gallery, wow! It will be interesting to see the pack format and average box yield but just based on this gallery I predict this will be one of the best releases of the year. Thanks Tracy!

Glad to hear you say that, Tom. Indeed, it will come down to how the boxes break. I’m interested in seeing that, too.

I think I just found my new favorite set of NFL cards. Please tell me you have some Luke Kuechly autos & memorabilia.

    • January 10, 2013 8:23 pm

I’m sure he’s in here but will confirm as soon as I can get my hands on a checklist.

Hogg Heaven was a fun product to open- I miss it. I’m a little worried that the autos on that insert will routinely be partially covered like the Stephen Hill pictured. The horizontal autos look much better than Absolute’s vertical version. I’m looking forward to picking up some of those RCs. Great work!

Love the Randall Cunningham and “Sweetness” cards-two of my favorite players growing up.
