Pssst . . . Panini America Unveils First Look at 2012 Prizm Baseball (Preview Gallery)
Amid the the intense furor surrounding today’s release of 2012 National Treasures Baseball, Panini America officials this morning are about to drop the second bombshell of the day on the baseball collecting community: 2012 Prizm Baseball is coming — and we have the hot-off-the-presses uncut sheets to prove it.
Indeed, hot on the heels of instant-classic sell-outs in basketball and football, the wildly popular Prizm technology is crossing over to the diamond in late April with a stunning 200-card base set (including 50 Rookies) and inserts such as Elite Extra Edition (10 cards), Rookie Relevance (12 cards), Brilliance (10 cards), Team MVP (30 cards), Top Prospects (eight cards), Dominance (10 cards) and USA Baseball (10 cards).
In addition to the hobby-only Elite Extra Edition Autographs (25 cards), there are also autographed versions of the USA Baseball insert and many of the base veterans and rookies. Clearly, though, what most collectors want from any Prizm brand are the breathtaking Prizm parallels — and 2012 Prizm Baseball has those in abundance.
The base Prizms, Gold Prizms and Finite Black Prizm 1/1s will be hobby-exclusive. Green Prizms will be retail-only while Red Prizms and Blue Prizms will be Target- and Walmart-only gems, respectively.
On average, each hobby box of 2012 Prizm Baseball will deliver two autographs and three Prizms along with the following insert yield: Four USA Baseball, two Team MVPs, two Dominance, one Elite Extra Edition, one Rookie Relevance, one Brilliance and one Top Prospect.
Each retail box should deliver three Green Prizms, one Elite Extra Edition, one Rookie Relevance, one Team MVPs, one Top Prospects, one Dominance and one USA Baseball.

Ooh…shiny. Not giving out more licenses hasn’t stopped the flow of new baseball sets, so the MLB should just give in an license more sets.
“2012” Panini Prizm? Really?
Yah, I question the 2012 on all these products as well. Don’t they have a better shelf life if you label them 2013, especially since they are actually coming out in 2013? Or is the date meant to reference the season and not the release date?

At this point we can all assume Prizm hockey 13-14 is in the works
For retail are there going to be blasters. Would love to know the price point for hobby versus retail.
This is the product I have been waiting for from Panini. Put that MLBPA license to good use.
The Mike Trout, Yu Darvish and Byrce Harper golds might be the best 3 cards that are not 1/1s in baseball cards this year. They look awesome!
Prizm is by far my favourite product this year! Hopefully my student budget allows me to get some of the baseball version 🙂
Yes, I totally agree with baseball Prizm. It makes sense seeing as how Basketball and Football have been so popular. So when is Hockey coming out? Well done Panini. Prizm is definitely product of the year.
Ok i’ve been holding back but i think it’s time to express what i think many others are thinking.
Why are you calling this 2012 instead of 2013? The cards clearly have a 2013 date on them.
And one other thing that has concerned me with the previous Football and Basketball PRIZM releases is “Centering Issues” The majority of the cards that i have seen in both releases have Centering issues. Will this be addressed soon? And also we obviously would like to get BLASTERS of the Prizm Products, the average Joe or Joan cannot afford 120$ plus for an unopened box and it’s clearly the only way to get unsearched product nowadays with so many “Annoying” Pack Searchers out there. And also when you put the Retail Boxes up on your website can you limit the number of boxes one person can buy so they don’t sell out so fast and Average Joe or Joan who doesn’t normally get a chance to buy because of sold out instantly status?
That being said I love the New Prizm concept across the board but being an average Joe i have a Really Hard Time finding this product without Breaking the Bank. Also would Like to see more refractors or maybe Even Xfractors ?? in future Prizm products. Thanks Panini for making great products and also giving the average collector a chance to have their voice heard.

AWESOME!!!!!!! I can’t wait for this to come out. I love the prizm technology and for it to be used on the sport I collect is just fantastic. I do hope there is going to be a way to get 7-10 pack “blaster” boxes from retailers instead of having to find boxes that don’t look like they have been searched. I found some football retail prizm the other day and every pack had a fingernail scratch on them from being searched. It really is a shame that when someone wants to spend 10-20 bucks on a few retail packs, he/she either has to scour the city to find some that haven’t been damaged or go without. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE do 7-10 pack blaster boxes for this. You have no idea how much money you would make by doing this. I, for one, know that when I see searched packs, I stick my money back in my pocket. For those of us without the means to buy hobby or that just like to take a chance on retail from time to time, you would be doing us a huge solid, and it would not go unappreciated.
Still don’t see my guy Tim Hudson, oh well 😦

I am a big fan of the different Prizm parallels. I think the prismatic black cards shown here are my overall favorites. The Mauer is sweet.
On a side note Muaer and his wife are expecting… TWINS! I think that deserves an insert at some point in the future.

Very interesting stuff. I’ll definitely be grabbing some. Greens will fall 3 per retail box, but can you reveal the insertion rate for the red & blues or are they only in racks/blasters?

I would rather see Prizm go to Hockey. Just don’t get to good of a feeling about it with Baseball. They have a rather plain look IMO. I love Prizm football and Basketball also, just dont care to much for the Baseball stuff.

We have already presold all that we can get our hands on. We needed this a great looking product all our customers are “hungry” for something “different”. I can’t believe any hobby store would allow searching packs. As far as “retail” outlets what can you expect everyone want’s something for almost nothing went given the freedom. Retail blasters sealed is the only way to go if no hobby shop nearby or $$$$ is a problem.

But no blaster boxes? Panini is aware that the only people who buy loose retail packs are lowlife pack searchers, right? They’re aware that putting their cards in blasters gives collectors the confidence to buy retail, right?
