April 9, 2013

Panini America 2012-13 Marquee Basketball Teaser Gallery (2)

Panini America’s 2012-13 Marquee Basketball product releases tomorrow boasting an engaging combination of pack variety, print technology and lots of Rookie Cards in every 20-pack box. The result of that collectible concoction, as you’ll see in the gallery that follows, is quite entertaining.

In advance of tomorrow’s official release date and to give collectors an idea of what to expect from the Marquee experience, we busted one early box of the product to take you pack-by-pack through all 160 cards. Enjoy the preview and stay tuned to The Knight’s Lance for additional coverage of 2012-13 Marquee Basketball tomorrow, including a must-see episode of Panini Unwrapped.

Interesting product with all the variations on the infamous ROOKIE card. Which version is the actual RC of the product? Seems sort of like overkill in the Rookie dept. Not sure about those cards with the word “ROOKIE” die-cut down the side (frame 37) Seems like it will be easy to snag those pass-through cut-outs on things.

I hate to say “I told you so”….. I have busted 3 boxes of Marquee. The ALL-ROOKIE Team laser-cut inserts are horribly fragile. I pulled 6 of them from my 3 boxes. The very tiny parts from the cut-out “E” at the end of the word ROOKIE are so fine and so delicate that they are accidents waiting to happen. I got my 3 boxes from a sealed case and pulled 2 pairs of dupes of this insert (which is a separate issue). I also pulled a LeBron ALL-ROOKIE Team insert and the tiny points of the “E” are compromised. I’ll be sending it back to Panini for replacement. Please have the design team avoid such miniscule “points”.

Wow! Some crazy cards in this one! I love it when you put ROOKIE on the cards because I don’t know ALL the basketball palyers like i do in BB and FB, it makes it a lot easier for me and I’m sure as well for others 🙂 LOVE the crazy WAVES! And the Rookie Jersey cutouts! Love’em! I’ll try and secure a box at least! Thanks guys! Have a GREAT DAY Sir Tracy!

The cards look cool, but the Marquee in block letters with a slight bend around a basketball makes it look like the Knicks logo. Especially with the colors you chose. I’m surprised no one caught that.
