Panini Peek: 2013-14 Prizm Hockey

July 18, 2013

2013-14 Prizm Hockey Main

Following an impressive bonus-pack preview appearance in 2012-13 Rookie Anthology Hockey earlier this summer, Panini America’s profusely popular Prizm technology is primed and ready to make its first standalone skate in the NHL. And when the product arrives in late September, it will do so equipped with two autographs, at least two Prizm parallels and 20 Rookie Cards in every 20-pack hobby box.

In addition to the many bells and whistles that collectors have come to know and love about the Prizm brand (low-numbered, multicolored Prizm-tastic parallels) 2013-14 Prizm Hockey will feature Panini America’s continued tribute to the massive Double Rookie Class and the stunning Immortalized die-cut insert that honors past Stanley Cup champions.

The product will feature three collectible levels of autographs as well as hobby-exclusive Orange Die-Cut Prizms (numbered to 50), Gold Prizms (numbered to 10) and Finite Black Prizms (numbered to only one). Panini America is also injecting additional chase to retail versions of the product by including Green Prizm parallels across all retail configurations, Red and Red Pulsar Prizms for Target stores, and Blue and Blue Pulsar Prizms for Walmart stores.

We’ve provided an extended first look at the product in the gallery that follows. Enjoy, and stay tuned to The Knight’s Lance for additional details on 2013-14 Prizm Hockey as they become available.

Wow, 13-14 Prizm is a really cool product. I love the Prizm bonus packs in Rookie Anthology and I can’t wait to see this product unfold in September with the double rookie class. Great job Tracy and the rest of the Panini crew!

But how will this have the double rookie class? The rookies for 2013-14 will still not have played so no cards of them unless they are redemptions.

      • July 18, 2013 6:20 pm

It’s a season-long Double Rookie Class. By rule, we can’t make cards of the 2013 Draft Class until they skate. Once they do, they will be incorporated into 2013-14 NHL products along with members of the 2012 Draft Class.

      • July 18, 2013 6:34 pm

So, does that mean there would be some redemption cards for the rookies from this year so they could be included at a later date? Or is there going to be something like a “Rookie + Traded” version of Prizm later this year?

      • July 18, 2013 6:36 pm

No. We’ll include the 2013 draft guys in 2013-14 products as soon as they skate.

Retail exclusive chase cards? Brilliant! Most exclusives only stay in the US, but will they be available in Canada too guys?

which product will the double rookie class actually kick in?

    • July 18, 2013 4:44 pm

      It began with Score Hockey.

Tracy, how does the double rookie class begin with score. The second half of the double rookie class have not played a game yet.

I feel bad for Toews, he has that same look for so many products now.

I have really liked every Prizm set so far, and it seems like it will continue now. Think this will be a big hit among the collectors!

And btw; when do an unwrapped video for 13-14 Score (both retail and jumbo, since there’s a difference between opening that many packs which make every single insert special and loaded jumbo packs) and maybe a contest appear here hehe? Since any of the Score brand have came to my town yet I would really love to see how it will be! So excited of Score and the double rookie class this season!

I also like the retail-specific parallels. Looking forward to hockey season (and hockey card season) already!!

Looks good so far, I heard good things from those finding Prizm cads in this year’s Rookie Anthology. Thanks Tracy!

great looking cards, can’t wait. Any news on those rookie redemptions from 2012-13 limited, the checklist at least and maybe when we can start seeing them in the mail. very anxious to at least here who they are.

With shiny cards and all the parallels, Prizm sounds like a replacement product for Certified. Is Certified still going to be made?

  14. July 18, 2013 7:53 pm

    Tracy,
You know I love that Huberdeau, I was wondering if the autos will be on-card? Will there be redemptions for the rookies to debut in October when the season starts?
    Thanks,
    T

Loving that Prizm is coming at us as a full on product by itself! Everything is collectible in this product, from the weight of the cards to the crisp images! My only thought is that I wish the rookies had jersey swatches like the basketball prizm cards. I’m also wondering if there will be more subsets included in this product?

Thanks again for making another exciting product to collect!

Appreciate the feedback, Matt. I think you’re thinking of Select Basketball — which uses the Prizm technology — with the rookie mem autos.

Love the die cuts! The Prizms are so sweet. I haven’t ever gotten a colored one, just base ones, but I have seen them and on here they just stand out.

I would love to see Prizm not just in retail boxes but in blaster boxes too. Any chance of that? Don’t think I ever saw any last year.

    Going to reblog this!

How has the double rookie class appeared in score when there aren’t any redemption cards! Can you please explain this to me? I would really like to know!

    Thanks

The yearlong celebration of the Double Rookie Class began in 2013-14 Score. As soon as the 2013 draft picks take the ice, they’ll be included.

Tracy. It sure sounds like score does Not have double rookies as that product is already out and how say once they take the ice they will be included. If the product is already out how are they already included?? Sounds like a contradiction to me.

    • July 28, 2013 10:30 pm

There are no 2013 draft players in Score. Score marks the beginning of what will be the Double Rookie Class, including the first RCs of some of the top 2012 picks. As soon as the top players from 2013 hit the ice, they will be included in our season-long Double Rookie Class. Sorry if my language was confusing.
