Panini America Delivers a Stunning Pre-Ink Peek at 2013 Black Football (30 Sweet Pics)

November 18, 2013

Panini America 2013 Black Football Pre-Ink Peek (8)

Just last week we brought you the initial PIS glimpses of three upcoming Panini America products, including 2013 Elite Extra Edition Baseball, 2013 Black Football and 2013 Crown Royale Football. Seeing as how PIS previews typically come several weeks, sometimes months, before any cards are ever printed, you can imagine our surprise when we discovered this afternoon that the first shipment of hot-off-the-presses gems from for Black Football had just been delivered.

So before Panini America’s Elizabeth Abundiz could catalog, QC and ready those cards for expedited shipment to the respective players on them for on-card autographs, I had to act fast to grab as many sweet preview images as I could.

As you’ll see in the preview gallery that follows, 2013 Black Football promises some inviting new designs and technologies sure to be well received by those collectors who thoroughly enjoyed the brand during its inaugural run last year. Keep in mind that the cards you’re about to see will be autographed the next time you see them.

We just didn’t want to wait that long to give you an initial taste of 2013 Black Football, including the must-see Shadow Box Jersey cards. Enjoy.

        Are they actual little jerseys?

      • November 18, 2013 8:14 pm

No, they’re not. But that’s what I thought it was going to be when they first explained the concept to me. Pretty cool looking cards, though.

Those shadow box jersey cards are awesome. My all-time favorites have to be the autos on the simulated turf with the end zones team-emblazoned. Those framed jersey cards might just top those. Can’t wait to see them in a future preview!!!

I might be digressing here, but I wonder if you could make a stepped-up version of those simulated field autos by having a blimp picture of the actual home football stadium incorporated into the card and the player signs on the field turf part. Like signing on a mini cropped aerial picture of the players home stadium.

will there be an auto version of the Shadow box jersey cards?

  7. November 18, 2013 7:42 pm

Hats off on those jersey shadow box cards. I can’t wait to see one in person! Are the autographs seen on them screen printed or actually signed with an ultra fine point marker?

    • November 18, 2013 8:15 pm

They will be signed on the acetate. The autos you see on them now are how they appear on the particular jersey that we photographed.

Must be really hi-res pictures. They look like either full size jerseys or little mini jerseys (card size). Hats off on the design!!

Love the shadow box cards. Perfect mini displays for my office. Great idea!!

Would be cool to see it taken one step further and have an actual size framed jersey that looked identical to the card released via Panini Authentic. What a 1/1 that would make!

    Awesome cards!
Will the printing plate policy be the same this year?
You pull one them ship it to Panini HQ and receive the other 3 plates?

Very nice preview, definitely looks like a step up in design from last year’s release. I’d take that Luck as is lol. Thanks Tracy!

Since everyone else is talking about them too, those jersey cards are a really interesting idea. Any insight as to who is going to be on the checklist for veterans/legends. I’m not really looking for any rookies

I really like the Panini Black profile. The product possesses a very clearly identifiable look, the cards are sharp and command attention, and the addition of the shadow box jerseys is nothing short of extremely clever and impressively executed. I’ll go so far as to say that the Shadowbox auto Jerseys are the most creative addition to a Panini set I’ve seen in a very long time. Bravo (golf clap).

I really liked the looks of this product last year but couldn’t afford any. Maybe this year.

    Hi Tracy.
The Black Football look great. I for sure will be getting a box. What price are there going to be around?
    Thanks.
