DBZ Show 2

SAN DIEGO — San Diego’s massive 2014 Comic-Con International opened its doors to the general public today after a scintillating sneak peek Wednesday night, and show-goers who stopped by the Panini America booth were treated to a little bit of anime history: The first Promo Card teasing the upcoming release of the 2014 Dragon Ball Z Card Game, the first release of the popular game in almost 10 years.

Panini America is distributing one new 2014 Dragon Ball Z Promo Card during each day of the show (while supplies last); the fifth card in the Promo Set will be available at the FUNimation booth. Fans can also purchase a new Dragon Ball Z playmat at the Panini America booth.

In addition to promoting the return of Dragon Ball Z, Panini America officials also are previewing the company’s upcoming Afterworld property with a special four-card Promo set and handing out free promotional sticker sheets for Panini America’s Frozen and Ultimate Spider-Man Sticker Collections. We’ve provided a preview gallery of just some the Promo goodies below.

With our very own Bryan Petray and Aik Tongtharadol on the ground in San Diego, be sure to follow the Panini America Twitter account for complete coverage of 2014 Comic-Con International all weekend long.

The ironic thing is that the game drew more of the late teens to early twenties crowd when it was around. The DBZ CCG was an adult’s game in a kid’s packaging. A lot of shops are writing this new release off because they think the game will be something akin to Poke’mon, with no competitive scene. Oh, how wrong they will be!

Really happy to see that DBZ is getting revived along with Afterworld hopefully making it past the promo stage this time around.

Excellent coverage of the in person debut of the new DBZ cards, but here’s the question that immediately comes to mind: are these new cards immediately compatible with the older releases? Or does everyone have to start from scratch with their decks/collections? Thanks Tracy!
