Panini America Redemption Card Update

March 17, 2011

The men and women in the Panini America Customer Service department have been working virtually around the clock in recent weeks feverishly fulfilling redemption card requests, and overcoming the short downtime and technical glitches associated with our recent relocation.

While we continue to strive for the nirvana that would accompany a zero-redemption marketplace, rest assured that we’re doing everything in our power to get caught up on those that do exist.

In an effort to keep collectors updated on the status of those redemption cards that are currently being processed at a breakneck clip, we’ll post a list, like the one below, detailing the most recent cards that have been fulfilled.

The following list is by no means complete, but it does let collectors know which redemption cards from which products have been completed in the last week. We’ll update this list at least once a week — and more frequently if possible — in the coming days.

I have a Limited auto nfl shield 1/1(of course lol) in since the beginning of the year of Emmanuel Sanders. I am perplexed why a 1/1 shield would not be available when he has other sticker autos in other products of Panini. You would think the auto shields would be available.
    Look forward to your reply

I am a little confused about something…I had 2 redemptions among those that I sent in from Eric Berry – a Score Hot Rookies auto and a Certified auto. I sent the redemption number in for the Score about 4 months ago ( I think as its been so long) and the Certified in about 2 months ago and got the Certified just now, yet still no Score Hot Rookies auto. Very frustrating as the value of the Hot Rookies card went from $75 when I first got it to a meager $10 value now (I thot I wld get it in a few weeks and then be able to sell it, boy was a reallllyyy wrong). That is what really stinks about redemption cards. Sometimes it is better to sell the redemption card instead of take a gamble and wait 4 months and counting for it to come in the mail. Aggghhhhh!!!

Thanks for posting the updates Tracy. They’ve been re-posted at SCF and we’ll continue to pass along that info to our members as you update the page. It is greatly appreciated. Your great and good colleague Al made a great post the other day regarding that you guys are just as frustrated with the redemption process as collectors are. As a hockey guy that’s been waiting for a couple P.K. Subban RC’s seeing the post you made a couple months ago with him and Price signing their stuff is greatly reassuring. Looking forward to the full hockey list.

I collect only NBA cards, open a ton of wax, love building sets and now have almost 40 cards(all personally pulled) awaiting redemption within the Panini system (with a few more here at home). Some have been there for about a year. I can appreciate the problems of dealing with professional athletes. However, it seems to me when Panini has an athlete under exclusive contract, and uses that exclusivity in its promotional material (ie: Kobe, Wall, Durant, Dirk etc), there should be NO reason for redemptions of those players. In addition, some products such as Prestige and Contenders Patches feature some LIVE autos of John Wall and some redemptions of John Wall. What’s up with that? Did his hand get tired? If so many autos are “sticker” autos, why are the cards to difficult to assemble and mail out? Why are some players redemptions in some products yet come out LIVE in a following product?

Of the many problems collectors face with redemption cards, among the most common are the following: 1. The player may no longer be an actual rookie if he signs the card in his sophmore season. Isn’t the collectability of a RC based on the fact that it was signed in the rookie season. If not, why aren’t second year cards as popular? 2. The player may wind up on a different team by the time it takes the redemption card to be processed, diminishing the “value” of the card. 3. If a card takes a long time to be redeemed, it’s value may be greatly reduced as other similar cards come out in subsequent products. While it may have been unique when pulled, it’s no longer sought as agressively because other LIVE cards have since been released. 4. Its very difficult to complete sets when redemptions take up to a year or more to be returned.

A redemption card is like an IOU that is inserted into a pack. The PROMISE to honor it is implied. While I applaud Panini for refocusing its efforts in their redemption department, it seems they should have been working this hard from the start to provide collectors with quality cards in a timely fashion.

    • Ken permalink
      March 18, 2011 3:55 pm

Point #3 is exactly my problem with the redemption process. When you release LIVE cards and I am still waiting on redemptions of that players sticker auto it makes mine worth less when and if I ever get it (simple supply and demand)…

I think it’s great that the list above was generated to show that athletes are signing cards and Panini is progressing. For that, I commend Panini.

I have just given up and sold all the redemptions I have gotten in the last 5 or so months… Just pulled a durant out of Absolute yesterday and I think it’s funny that a big deal was made about him being in the product and it isn’t even live. The exact card I pulled the redemption for is on the sell sheet… Complaining gets me nowhere, but I’m tired of my cards being worth 1/2 as much by the time I get the card in the mail (i.e. Ryan Mathews certified autos)

Just thought that maybe if more people knew which players were refusing to honor their signed contracts, etc. — Hakeem Nicks, Ryan Mouton, Kenny Britt, Mike Goodson, Shawn Nelson — Nah, people would still blame you…

Keep putting up great products! We connoisseurs will always back you,

I do agree that the John Walls would have been nice to pull live.
Now I just hope the one I have coming is a beauty from Absolute. RPM 🙂
Another good idea is: if redemptions have cards signed oncard instead of stickers as bonus.

I do have a 9 month Ty Lawson replacement waiting to arrive and a real cool Baron Davis on the way too from National Treasures.

I do have to also say that Absolute has some truly beautiful cards to open and enjoy in person. I have pulled some magnificent patch and large game worn cards that are greatly appreciated (especially of retired legends and NBA current greats).

    • April 12, 2011 9:35 pm

Thanks for the questions. I’ve got a two-part answer for you.

First, from Panini America assistant hockey brand manager Clint Hall:
“Those first 4 were the TBD cards and they are being made (soon hopefully). Fowler is under contract to sign what is outstanding; he’s not going to sign until after the playoffs, though. Subban is done. Burmistrov is a TBD card also.”

Now, from Panini America hockey acquisitions manager Alex Carbajal:
“As far as Fowler not signing for Panini, that is false. He is excited to be part of the Panini family. The signatures are in house for Certified card #191. The only thing he has outstanding are the embroidered patches.”

      Hope this helps.
