Panini America Employee Cards Add Rarity, Fun to National Wrapper Redemption Set

July 31, 2012

When the 2012 National Sports Collectors Convention begins tomorrow in Baltimore, Panini America will give new meaning to the term “business cards.” And depending on your perspective, it’s a development that will either set collecting back a few decades or provide a fun, scarce addition for any Panini America fan.

The history-making (or is that history-mocking?) Rookie Cards of Panini America Marketing Manager Scott Prusha, Hobby Sales Manager Rodney Alsup and, yes, even yours truly, will be included via special instant-win redemption cards in the company’s wrapper-redemption program.

In addition to being extremely limited (just 20 of each were produced for the show), the cards include over-sized prime pieces of work-worn (seriously) Rated Rookie T-shirt and ample signing space. And the only way to get the card — and get it signed — is by redeeming an instant-win card in person at the Panini America booth during the National.

At the very least, the conversation pieces should make for a fun few days in Baltimore. And they also gave us the perfect opportunity to create the following video showing you exactly how a memorabilia card is made.

We hope you enjoy the video and the gallery. We look forward to seeing you in Baltimore — or online in the event that you can’t make it.

First, the video . . .

Now, the gallery . . .

Oh my goodness….That is some sweet mojo there!! Would this be your Rookie card Tracey??

    • July 31, 2012 10:28 am

Glad you like them. 🙂 Indeed, I’m honored to say that this would be my Rookie Card.

You have NO idea how much I’ve actually wanted to do something like this for a business card. I am insanely jealous.

Pretty crazy stuff! Especially with what i’m guessing is a laser cutting them up. Itd be pretty sweet to have your own card too.

What? No card of Ben? Dislike 😦

I would love to have this for my business card as well.
What are the chances of having Panini make business cards for us?
    For a fee of course!

What a truly epic announcement, wow! Thanks Tracy!

Oh so many comments to make, but I will show restraint on this one. Very cool. Just let me know when you are doing the bloggers series. Who is on the fourth Colossal, just above Rodney, in the video?

    • July 31, 2012 11:10 am

I think I speak for all of us here when I say “we appreciate your restraint, Ian.” As for the blogger series . . . don’t think we haven’t been giving that some serious thought. As for the fourth Colossal, well, it’s not part of the wrapper redemption but it does honor one of our special guests this week. We’ll have more on that in the coming days.

Those are so awesome! My son and I make our own “jersey” cards of ourselves at home but don’t even come near these!

I don’t know if you remember my post a few weeks ago about this during a preview of somethng…BUT I SO CALLED THIS! And Scott Prusha had commented about me having the office bugged lol. I didn’t actually know I was right though.

You are far too kind, Kevin. I thought my wife, my mom and one of my two kids were the only ones who wanted one. 🙂

These are the 2 things I love about Panini, having some fun and letting thier customers behind the scenes. It’s just great PR.
To many times people/companies in this industry take themselves/it far to serious. After all this is a hobby and is supposded to be fun. Great job guys.

    • July 31, 2012 12:21 pm

Really appreciate that. Glad you’re taking these cards in the spirit we intended.

Definitely a fun idea as folks on sites have done things before. Just looking forward to what they cards sell will sell for on the bay. As when anyone is gambling it all about getting the pc item which I doubt anyone truly wants one of these for the longhaul versus a player or team for their pc.

A quick question Why not have the the picture of the work shirt matching the piece on the card? Just think that would be better if the pic matched the jersey.

    • July 31, 2012 8:26 pm

Those swatches are from the exact shirts we’re wearing in the photos, and that we all wore at the 2012 NFLPA Rookie Premiere.

I’m going to be the first to get the three employee set graded and put into the PSA registry. Really, just to say I did it. Although Tracy, if your mom really wants one, I’ll give her a good deal. I’m planning on doing the $6500 VIP event, so surely I will end up with at least one of these, right?

    • July 31, 2012 8:24 pm

Yes, sir. And if you do the $6,500 VIP event, I think you’re bound to pull one or two yourself! And I will let my mom know.

Mr. Hackler, how does an old collector like myself get his hands on an autographed PW card of YOU? That would be a cornerstone in my collection! I would have to slab it if I had one…….

How can I get a Rated Rookie shirt like that?

    • August 1, 2012 12:40 am

Stay tuned to The Knight’s Lance tomorrow. We’ll have complete details there!

  31. August 1, 2012 12:21 am

About time guys. My guess… Hackler will be big money on ebay!

    • August 1, 2012 12:57 am

If nothing else, it will make for some interesting viewing. I promise not to shill bid my own card. I can’t speak for my wife, though. 🙂

      • August 1, 2012 3:21 am

The ultimate set chase for her! The printing plates would be a nice addition to your walls at home! Ultimate proof you made it to a card.

  32. August 1, 2012 3:20 am

Oh crikey… THE WORLD IS NOT READY for such a momentous addition to the world of cardboard. If I ever got one of those I would grade it and list it on ebay at a vastly inflated price just for kicks to see if anyone nibbled.

As for the rated rookie… i’m just not buying it surely it would be more of a HOF subset!
