The Panini America Quality Control Gallery: 2012 Certified Football (Part 1, 66 Images)

October 4, 2012

As you read this, 2012 Certified Football — one of the flagship brands in the Panini America NFL portfolio — is in the finishing stages of being revamped for a new season. And judging by the shimmering sheen of the holographic filmboard used to produce this year’s cards, Certified’s future remains bright.

Bolstered by a crisp, clean design and an expansive checklist that includes this season’s best rookies, the NFL’s biggest current superstars and retired legends from both the recent and distant past, 2012 Certified Football begins shipping next week. But the Panini America Product Development began the quality control process for the product this morning.

You can get your first extended look at the product in the massive gallery that follows. We’ll have more glimpses from tomorrow’s second-day QC process in the coming days.

Hey Tracy, I think it would be different and nice see legend players with die-cut nicknames if possible. Like Okoye, a die-cut jersey or patch card that says “Nigerian Nightmare” would be awesome and I don’t think it has ever been done in the past. There are tons of legends with nicknames that could provide a nice subset. Just an idea, take it with a grain of salt, lol.

Like the idea, Scott. Good stuff.

Thanks Tracy, I know the “Nigerian Nightmare” is a long nickname, but you could probably do half of the nickname with the other part being in print on the card to make it fit. Thanks for the reply. I am always trying to think up new card ideas that are different. Talk to you soon!!

Um..why does it appear in a lot of these that the players bodies are so disproportionate. I mean some the legs look huge and upper body small..especially some of their heads. Donta Hightower, Art Monk, Len Dawson, Coples lower body, Okoye looks like a transformer. Craig James arms look pencil thin compared to rest of him. Is it just the way the cards had to be positioned for photos making it appear that way?

Must be the camera angle. Nothing was done to alter the original images outside of color correction.

Happy to see some of these guys like Okoye and Fryar getting some hobby love.

    • October 4, 2012 3:34 pm

No question about that. I was thrilled to see some of the retired greats in the set. I probably showed too many of them, but it’s hard to go wrong with those guys.

Liking these all! Especially the immortals cards (reg and GU). Steve Largent was one of my favorites when I was a kid, and Randall Cunningham later on while in college!!

Will there be one New Generation auto per box? It seems these are always of the lesser quality guys, but they seem to have been in every box last year.

Can’t wait to add one of those Robert Turbin Freshman Fabrics to the PC. Certified is my favorite product every year and this year looks to be no exception. Love all the color this year. Nice job Panini

Great looking cards. Only constructive criticism is going back to sticker autos after they looked so good with freshman fabric being on card last year.

    • October 4, 2012 5:02 pm

      Fair enough, Jeffrey.

Freshman Fabric auto rookies took a step back this year without on card autographs. The FF set is a hobby staple and it deserves on card treatment in the future.

Man I do close to a half case or case most years of this stuff and I usually love it! Too much foil used this year and now the freshman fabrics are back to sticker autos, I will pass!

    Tracy,
I really like the depth of the Immortals apart of this set. Are there any legends you have added this year that may have been tough before or not have too many releases. I really am excited about Shaun Alexander, does he have an auto too?
    Thanks,
    T

I really like the bold colors this year with Certified. It looks really good, it almost looks like an evolved foilboard.

Good to see a new action shot used for Art Monk. It’s been the same (Redskins) action shot for years. 2011 Limited had the same shot as 2010 Contenders, which was the same as 2002 Donruss Classics.
