Between the Sheets: Panini America Shares an Uncut Look at 2012-13 Prizm Basketball
Hypnotic. Alluring. Intoxicating. Stunning. Poignantly . . . prismatic. Look, I could go on and on (and on and on) describing the myriad enchanting effects that the upcoming 2012-13 Panini Prizm Basketball has on me. But all of us here at Panini America would be way more interested in hearing what you think about the bold newcomer to our 2012-13 NBA roster.
Things is, we don’t have finished cards to show you just yet for the product that starts shipping November 5. What we do have, however, are two vibrant uncut sheets that were delivered to Panini America HQ earlier this week. We shared a glimpse of the base 100-up front form during our Panini Unwrapped episode starring 2012-13 Threads Basketball. Today, we’re going to share a whole lot more.
In the days since that filming, we’ve received a second sheet of fronts, this one showcasing the captivating Green Prizm parallels. Seeing as how our Panini Peek preview on 2012-13 Prizm Basketball is our sixth most-viewed post of the last 90 days, we know Prizm, is a product in which you’re keenly interested. Here’s betting the following 27 preview images elevate that interest level quite a bit. Take a look and let us know.
The good news, of course, is that you still have 18 more days or so to continue enjoying 2012-13 Threads Basketball while you’re waiting for Prizm to release. Not a bad way at all to pass the time.

So, i get 6 hits per box,
2 autographs, 2 prizm, and 2 inserts
total 20 packs per box and only 6 pack includes and hits?
Cards are really pretty, but i dont belive that 6 cards are worth 100 $
If I’m not mistaken it’s 20 packs per box, 6 cards per pack, so you’d actually be getting 120 cards for that price, not 6!
Well done Panini! Kudos to this great looking product. I am certain this will be a hit with a lot of collectors. I can’t wait to get my hands on these.
AWESOME!!! I can’t say anything but AWESOME!!!
STUNNING! The pictures simply jumps out to you. I love it. This is a winner, a home run, a touch down, a slam dunk!
Thanks Tracy!
Awesome looking cards
I’m seriously impressed!!
Glad to hear that, Chad.
These look great. Going to bust these asap
These look a lot like Topps Chrome and Finest.
Will the Prizms be numbered? Any rare inserts?
Prizm looks AMAZINGLY PHENOMANAL!!!! Please show us some pics of some autos when you get them, ok Tracy? Great job Panini design team!!
You got it, Nick. Glad you like it.
Wowsers they look so good you could frame the sheet snd put it on the wall as art. Very impressive design!
Wow, everything is very impressive, but those USA cards are particularly incredibly. That would be a fantastic set to make. and that Kobe is a must! Any chance you guys can go back in time and make a 92 Dream Team set like this? Kidding of course, but seriously, nice work guys!
Loving the look of these cards! Well done! Cant wait to buy some!
wow.. love the look
Amazing cards.. Btw are the green Prizm going to be serial #’d?
I know the Gold Prizms are numbered to 10. I’ll check on Monday regarding the Greens.
wow unbelievable. This is totally crazy! I’m super stoked for this!
Glad to that hear that, BT.
Wow…they just keep staring at me…or am I staring at them…ooooooo shiny…
Any plans to do these in other sports?
Oh, most definitely.
Thats going to be awesome.
Very colorful! Perhaps last comment for a while-getting ready for Sandy here in SE PA. Hoping for the best but prepping for the worst.
Good luck, Keith. We’re keeping a good thought for all of you guys and gals up there.
Thanks, Tracy! One can do what one can do, and we should. But times like this remind us how small we really are on the grand scope of things. Tonight and tomorrow should be the worst of it, so perhaps will get to some more commenting later.
On a lighter note, if the power is out for a while and everything else is OK house-wise, at least I’ll get some time to sort some of the piles of cards that are piling up on my hobby desk like little skyscrapers. Opening boxes is easier than sorting, but I do enjoy sorting when trying to put a set together. Plus, I am thankful for my wood stove to be able to heat my house in that event!
Green Prizm is absolutely stunning! Please tell me there are legend and veteran on-card autos on this checklist. If not, something to think about for next year.
Hackler- imagine you being a kid, dad/mom gets home from work and gives the kid a couple packs of Prizm, and the kid opens a Prizm pack and discovers an on-card Larry Bird or Magic auto. A card Larry or Magic actually held and signed on it. That kid would be a Panini collector for life! PRICELESS!
I usually collect football and baseball cards only and now I am having hard time not considering buying some Threads and Prizms.
I like the way you think, Jason.
COOL!
Reminds me of some of the better basketball parallels from the mid to late 90s, I hope they start a similar craze in the marketplace that those past sets did. Thanks for the preview Tracy!
Once again I am loving the USA cards. The flag background really sets it off! Hell, I love all of the cards. It’s a very nice and warming switch up from basic cards. Keep up the unique twist! Although you guys can just throw away all those Harden cards. 😛 Thunder Up!
Black Football and now this, WOW! Can you please do a football set like this?? PLEASE!!!
Also, Tracy I opened Gridiron Football and got a hotbox! The photos are AMAZING! Any plans to revive the Donruss name and do a BIG football set? Photos, like the ones in Gridiron would be amazing in a cheaper set like Donruss. Kids really need a set to collect too!
I agree with you, Michael. Nice work on Gridiron.
Wow. Those actually look awesome. I love the bright colors and the reflective surface. Really cool stuff there.
Much appreciated, Kevin.
Tracy, did you find out if the Green Prizms will be #ed?
They are not numbered and retail-exclusive.
Wow,really cool looking cards! Great Job Panini!
Now since Sheed is back on the Knicks, could you please, please try to get Rasheed in the Base set? I want some new Sheed Cards 🙂
Great product for the set builder looks amazing
I am digging those team USA cards in a big big way!
OMG, that is so cool. It’s like 90’s inserts coming back.
Any autographs?
Yes, sir.
I’ve heard the release has been pushed back, is there any truth to that, or is Nov. 5th still the date it gets shipped?
That’s the last I’ve heard but I’ll confirm tomorrow.
Just got confirmation that it did get pushed back due to a production issue. Will try to get more information tomorrow.
Just got confirmation that the new live date is Dec. 5.
Tracy, can you confirm that, that box contains 6 hits (2 autographs, 2 prizm, 2 inserts)
And are the 2 inserts numbered, or are they just USA Baskteball, Finalist and Most Valuable Player cards (total these cards 2, in a box )?
At a minimum, each box deliver two autographs, two Prizm inserts and two additional inserts; and a third of the set will be RCs.
Regarding to the patent of the foil/refractor/etc it must be sounds like you may have bought licence from Topps company to be allowed to make these cards or was it made by your company Panini from scratch without copying the Topps copyright? But of course I do know that Topps do not make any trading cards for NBA anymore though which is a shame. So its nice to see replacement is being made by Panini for the NBA trading cards to enjoy these. Well done on design! Looks like well made too.
Topps never held patent rights to this technology. Patents are owned by the manufacturer. Topps did not manufacture this technology.
are the green prizms numbered? hobby or retail exclusive? thanks for the info Tracy.
The Green Prizms are retail-only and, I believe, not numbered.
Theses cards are sick some of the nicest cards I’ve ever seen basketball or Football. Very impressed
