The Panini America Quality Control Gallery: 2012-13 Score Hockey (39 Must-See Images)

August 10, 2012

Here’s reason No. 3,769 why every day at Panini America is a forever-entertaining, never-a-dull-moment, white-knuckle thrill ride: Just one day after previewing 2011-12 Dominion Hockey, one of the most lavish, super-premium NHL products in existence, we now get to preview 2012-13 Score Hockey, one of collecting’s most affordable, bang-for-your-buck bargains.

So even as they feverishly work on putting the finishing touches on 2011-12 Prime Hockey and 2011-12 Dominion Hockey in something of a high-end Texas heatwave, Panini America’s NHL Brand Managers also have one eye keenly fixed on quality controlling Score, the first product of the new season that began shipping today.

It was the subject of a Tweet this morning from Panini America NHL Brand Manager Chris Barr that got my Friday off to a fantastic start:

Clearly, I couldn’t wait until next week. If there’s one thing I know about readers of The Knight’s Lance and hockey collectors, it’s that they don’t like to wait for the first look of anything we do. So, like the gentleman that he is, Barr hand-delivered a wide array of compelling Score cards from the just-completed QC process, including Hot Rookies, autographs and such inserts as Net Cam, Check-It, The Franchise, Team Future and Team Score.

They’re featured below in all their glory. Enjoy this first look at 2012-13 Score Hockey and stay tuned for more next week.

Very cool! Does the NHL as an organization realize the value that you bring to their brand? If not, they better get on board because they are dying on the vine! Great job, Panini!

Really nice product. I loved score last year, and it looks like I will this year too. Are there still gonna be Hot Rookie SPs for the more anticipated rookies this year? If not, I’m not sure if this product has kept all of its value…

QC check done on my end…things look good as always. The hot rookies look nice with the action shots.

Are there going to be redemptions for short printed rookies for the new guys coming in this year? Those were great hits the past 2 years.

Matt, I opened a case last night that only had 2 auto’s, but there was something wierd. I got a totally blank filler in one pack and I wonder if it was supposed to contain an auto/redemption?

        Eric,

My case was also short on autographs. I received three autographs instead of the four stated.

Is there anything Panini will do, I realize these case hits are based on averages but to be short 2 auto’s really hurts.

I’ll forward the issues to CS.

I too was short on autographs. I only recieved 3 instead of four. Also one autograph seems to have orange flecks under the protective tape stuff

Check It!!!!, I remember when Pinnacle first released these. They were in canadian exlcusive packs back during the 94-95 season (which btw, was the season of the 1st lockout- coincidence or irony- no matter I digress) and this was before the internet so these were quite the chase for american collectors.
Great idea to bring back all the old-school Score inserts. I love how Panini embraces Score past. Sometimes when companies buy brands they try to make it thier own and ruin it.

Release date still firm for the 24th?

Awesome looking product. I have really enjoyed the last two years and I am surely going to chase this one again! Score continues to be the best large set out there.

Can’t wait to open these up and see what I get!

I hope that the collation is much better than last years. I opened up a case and had 5 of one base card and 17 of another.

i too have opened a few of the boxes i ordered and i was thinking that they look good….then i came across Niklas Kronwall of the Red Wings (card #179 i believe) if you check the image on the front of the card you will notice something odd. it is not Niklas Kronwall on the card (he wears #55 btw), it is Tomas Holmstrom. I have subbited this information to Panini but no response yet.
