Panini America Teams with Blake Griffin for Public Signing, “New Guy” Web Miniseries

September 22, 2011

You can scratch “acting lessons” off the list of things the incomparable Blake Griffin should be doing to pass the time while waiting for the NBA lockout to end. As you’ll soon see, the guy needs no stinking acting lessons. He’s a natural.

As for the list of things Griffin will be doing in the coming days, add “rare public autograph signing.”

Both pursuits — “The New Guy” web miniseries that launches today and the October 1 public signing at Orange County Sports Cards in Anaheim, Calif. — are the unique results of Panini America’s exclusive relationship with Griffin. And both are guaranteed to leave witnesses starstruck.

Panini America announced its exclusive trading card, autograph and memorabilia agreement with Griffin last spring and wasted little time in testing the superstar’s polished acting chops. The 2010-11 NBA Rookie of the Year and All-Star Slam Dunk Champion stopped by the office while the Clippers were in town to play the Dallas Mavericks in early April and gladly accepted his starring role in “The New Guy.”

He quickly became known as “One-Take Blake” around these parts, flashing a flair for improvisational humor and an impeccable sense of comedic timing that Hollywood execs would kill for. Panini America officials premiered “The New Guy” in its entirety exclusively on Griffin’s Panini HRX Video Trading Cards that released in July.

Today, they’re ready to share it with the rest of the world, beginning with Part 1.

Stay tuned next week for Part 2. And for more information on how you can get meet and obtain autographs from the star of “The New Guy” on October 1 during a special Panini Authentic signing at Orange County Sports Cards, click here or contact the store by phone at (714) 761-6414.

Clever. And it was great to see another small part of how our beloved cards are made as our star traveled through the corridors of Panini.
